I had unlimited data with t-mobile for $80/mo and it was a spectacular failure. We literally had no data service 99% of the time on the Eastern Seabord. Voice calls were iffy, but your "unlimited" data is limited to 100MB (yes, MB) of roaming data, and the only time we were EVER on the t-mobile network was driving through NYC for about an hour and Chicago. It was so awful.
Currently have 20GB for $120/mo with Verizon and the only dead spot I've found is on the Airline Hwy 9 in far northern Maine for about 30 miles.
Unlimited Data ... Sprint or T-Mobile

And thank you for sharing what you found out. -
Thanks for replying with your experiences with T-Mobile.2Girls_1Truck Thanks this. -
You may have had T-Mobile a while ago. They have done a good job in expanding coverage but it's still a long way from Verizon or AT@T. I run the eastern seaboard sometimes and I think the coverage is decent. Has been for a while. Was towed into Bangor that one time and had 4G the entire time there.
Roaming data is now 50mb by the way. If you run the eastern side you will have 4G in just about all of Jersey, Philly, NYC, most of Connecticut, Massachusetts New Hampshire and a surprising amount in Maine. Virginia only in the cities, most of Maryland.
I use my phone for everything and I run all over so I have a good idea of where the 4G is. In the past 2 years I have noticed a substantial uptick in coverage area, I don't believe they were blowing smoke when they said they were investing in new towers, really seems to have worked.
In my experience they only state outside of the northwest that is terrible for T-Mobile is Arkansas. Only west Memphis and Little Rock have 4G.
With all that said if Verizon offered truly unlimited I would switch tomorrow, you just can't beat the coverage.2Girls_1Truck Thanks this. -
I've seen between 145 and 198 recently.
For my personal usage which is about 30+GB a month plus not needing to watch data plus having LTE coverage almost everywhere. Its worth it to me. But then again I'm addicted to the internet and its one of the few things that keep me "sane" in the truck. -
If your otr you really cant beat Verizon. I use cricket, which is basically att, because regionally att the best service in South Texas. Particularly in all these country blumpkin towns I deliver to.

I left maybe 2 weeks later. Maybe less. -
So here's what I have found. There are few good choices for mobile hotspots right now. We'd all like to have Verizon, but their data plans are crazy expensive. 40GB for $260 going all the way to $710 for 100GB. ATT is worse. Sprint and T-Mobile have coverage issues and throttling issues. The grandfathered lines from Verizon are still expensive at $198/mo, but not compared to the alternatives. I heard that Sprint has a truly unlimited hotspot data plan for a lot less. has anyone used the Karma?

Was a little nervous because I've had a lot of data on my phone for so long and I was afraid I might slip up and forget. So basically what I do now is keep the WiFi on 24 hours a day. And when I leave my truck take the jetpack with me to stay connected.
I currently have used 0.001 of my phone data. Which is about 1.02 mbs of the 6. Working out pretty great so far.
I save 168.00 this way but then again that savings goes towards the 198.00 I pay. Which has me at 306.00 for phone and data. Compared to 274.00 plus the 198.00 I was planning on doing. So I'm still saving 166.00. And it sure beats the 15.00 overages I've had before. One month I had a 700.00+ phone bill. Never again..
