If someone pays you to carry a bag on your shoulder up a hill and you twist your ankle, would you expect to be paid while your on the sidewalk in a lawn chair?
I'm a democrat but god#### people always want something for nothing! Your not doing anything make the most of it. Go to a steakhouse, see a movie...Hell, rub one out in the bathroom. The freights not moving the money isn't gonna make itself.

If you're a company driver and the company's truck breaks down- thru no fault of the driver- the driver should be compensated for that time. We can all agree on that right? I mean, OTR drivers give up enough of their time for free. Enough is enough. Pay the driver for the time he has hours to drive, and is willing but can't because of equipment failuresBostonTanker, Toomanybikes, Bob Dobalina and 2 others Thank this. -
Drivers wanna make money. No fault in that. But when they half### an inspection & are forced to deal with the consequences....Cest la vie. What's next? Being paid to inspect your rig? I'm all for it...but I'm a realist that fully understands capitalism too.
You wanna be paid by the hour, you're in the WRONG industry.

If you are paid by the mile and the truck breaks down and the company does everything reasonably possible to fix it as quick as possible I don't think they should owe you anything. It is not like they are doing it on purpose or benefiting from it and it sure as heck is costing them a lot more than it is costing you.
Now if your company has a piece of junk truck and it is always breaking down then that is a different story and I would have a talk with someone about it but random things few and far between I wouldn't sweat it.
Besides that a large percentage of breakdowns don't just happen. There are warning signs and many times a driver ignores them or doesn't even check.Big Don, MidWest_MacDaddy and Charlie Mac Thank this. -
Just because one has not been "driving" for 10 does not equate to being fully rested and prepared to assume a safety related task on the public highways.
My truck stays parked until it is safe for me to drive and I don't mind responding with a "the truck will be ready and the driver fully rested at X o'clock"

You can pretrip until the cows come home but that won't prevent an issue with an emissions control system fault which is the cause of I'd say 80% of long term stays at a shop.
Now if you put diesel in the def tank, that's another matter.Toomanybikes, Canned Spam and peterd Thank this. -
The truck was down 5 days one time just to get the DPF cleaned...Charlie Mac Thanks this.
