Young drivers will learn: There are some simple "fixes" that can be performed with simple hand tools and various materials found in, on, or around a truck to get it off the road and to a safe place. Little things like fuel filters, wiper blades, etc. are no big deal IF a company is willing to reimburse you for it. Such things as wiper blades and fuel filters, however, can fall into that emergency category as well. But don't go overboard. Fix a burned out light, replace worn wiper blades to increase YOUR safety, and change fuel filter(s) if the truck don't seem to be pulling like it should. Again, that falls back to safety. You don't want to be in the middle of an intersection and have a truck stall out because the filter is clogged and the engine can't get fuel. Everything else, let the mechanics worry about it. Take care of the safety oriented stuff, leave the rest to the guys that get paid for it.
