Your exactly right !!! And that’s one of the differences between a steering wheel holder and a honest to goodness driver.. Basically their to lazy and not smart enough to read a Atlas because they don’t know the simple things like even numbered interstates & US highways run east & west ,3 digit interstates are bypasses and most city’s & towns streets run east & west & avenues go north & south and the numbered streets & avenues start from the center of the town or city . But it’s easier to just listen to the box because it’s never wrong when you can’t think for yourself

Tallest vehicle allowed, not the actual height.

It comes back to peoples’ reasons for actually doing this job. The way I’m currently seeing it the stupid ones are those with no other options for a somewhat decent paying job, as opposed to those of us doing it because we like it. They’ll take everything dumbed down to the lowest extent possible.

That’s probably your problem. My trip plan always starts and ends with the GPS (Garmin Dezl 700) I double check destination with google satellite, take notes what looks like the best way in at destination, then zoom out to see it reasonably makes sense overall then zoom in on final mile to see its taking me the way I want to go. Then I plug in some stops so I can have the mile counter with a couple taps. Off I go.

    Garmin GPS
    Google satellite view
    Truckers Path for stop offs

So for clarification purposes you enter in all your info start & stop points then double check it on google maps to make sure it’s correct and then enter that into truckers path and away you go the whole time that magical black box is making your decisions for you correct ? Won’t it of been easier to just plan your route off of a Atlas ? Vs having to double check everything some electronic device told you knowing that it’s not reliable.

Are you sure? It seems to imply that is the actual clearance.

It keeps getting stated or implied that an Atlas is more accurate than the GPS. Why would the Atlas have information more up to date than the GPS?

One reason: that Atlas has been in business A LOT LONGER than any of the GPS vendors. So it follows they should have a more thorough database.

I would respectfully submit -- using a GPS (or Google Maps, or Waze) as the sole nav device is rather dangerous. :violent3:

With that said -- a GPS unit does bring some nifty advantages to the game -- it's easier to see/read than most any cell phone screen (for those of us who aren't 20 years old anymore).

Post #16 here details more ways a GPS proves its worth and keeps a driver out of trouble....despite their current flaws & quirks. Thankfully -- those flaws and quirks do have useful workarounds; otherwise, I would have thrown mine out the window long ago. o_O
