Ummmm I happen to be a lady. I am not up on all the latest HOS. Matter of fact when I spoke with a guy at L & H trucking he was still talking about 8 hours in the sleeper. I thought hmmmmm perhaps they don't run by the same rules that the other carriers do.

5 years ago a local cop in FL requested to see my log book. I refused, and told him he did not have that authority. He got huffy and said that he would call DOT. I told him that would be the only way I would dig it out and he backed off. Maybe I got lucky by calling him out as I didn't even carry a log book at the time.

To avoid fines, you need to start your log by filling in the top section and be sure to put empty on where the bol goes,if you are loaded the bol or shipping numbers there. Do your pretrip if you had your long break, fill it all out and sign it. Make sure your last stop you made whether safety tire ck flagged or fueled up or ate, then if you get checked you won't pay any fines, the dot officer will have and let you fill it out to his point of inspection, make sure you log that,if a scale checks you again in that state they will see it on the computer and catch you if you don't. Don't get caught with weigh scale tickets or fuel slips with time on them or tolls that don't match. If you lose time in a traffic or construction area, figure in your head how much time you lost and record that as a stop at the end of the slowdown or before, thus saving your driving hours. I have never paid a log book violation in my life a couple of written warnings on average speed mistakes on mountainous highways loaded,i couldn't average the speed to the time I put down on the log. There's not alot to it,just some lines in all the right places. There's alot more but don't want to incriminate myself, but looseleafs are the way to go.

And as I learned the hard way of course. If a reciept has the time on it and it is incorrect get a correct one or throw it away.

Also a little known fact..............Cat Scale tickets have the time on them on the second sheet. Throw it away if you can.

KC you are so right! And another lesson, don't "accidentally" mark over the date, time or any other info on a receipt because DOT will find that during a company DOT audit and the company will get fined if 1) they paid you 2) if they did not take severe actions against you! They consider that Altering legal documents!

Sometimes they will tend to bring the "J" in their name over the time (but they make it to where you can't read the time) DOT caught on to that years ago unfortunately. So yeah throw it away before you hand it in!
BUT I DID NOT EVEN SAY THAT:biggrin:

From the few posts you made I am assuming you work for a trucking company, and by your user name I am assuming you work in the log department, Am I correct?

If I am, what company do you work for?

I won't lie; you are right! What I don't know @ this point is to tell where I work! Not that I am ashamed or hiding anything, but just because.

But yeah you are right and I have been in it for quit some time.

Why? I am not slamming anyone or anything as such! I promise you that. I understand 2 sides! I understand we can be a pain and I understand drivers sometimes can be a pain, but with them I figure they are having a bad day the same as the office person is having a bad day. It is all about getting along the best we can and if we can't move on. I like talking to truck drivers, the only thing @ work I am so overwhelmed I can't #### chat! :laughing5: Sorry I like the smiley guys
