Won't they be able to tell me if there's blow by with the oil sample test? Or do I need to get a manometer?

Also, I'm assuming that you put the oil bypass system on these trucks and they do not come like that from the factory. Is this correct?

Where is a good place to get a bypass set up for a 2016 Cascadia with the DD15 in it?

I've been in the car business to some degree in my life and thus I've bought many cars from dealer auctions so I've learned a little about what to look for. Now granted these are gas engines and so there different but there are still some points that transfer, like how the car looks on the inside and outside. Typically cars that were not well maintained looked the part. They were beaten up body-wise and interior-wise. Of course, the dealer would go through the vehicle and detail it to the gills but there's only so much you can do to cover up years of abuse. The trained eye can see it from a mile away. On the other side of the coin, you can see when cars have been taken care of. Very rarely will the dealer go to the trouble and the expense to take care of all aspects that would camouflage this but it does happen I suppose with the more expensive stuff.

My point is it's all about how the vehicle was maintained and treated. You can have two vehicles that are the same year and model and both be completely different internally. I think that's why we hear a lot of inconsistent things on particular vehicles. One will say it's a piece of crap and the other will say it was a fantastic vehicle for them. What was the difference, "maintenance"?

People say a lot about big fleets and that their trucks are crap and always go with an owner op because they'll take care of their truck and I'm sure that's true sometimes but not always. There are O/O's that treat their trucks worse than the mega fleets do. Because at least the mega-fleets change oil in their truck and you know what else they fix them when they break. When I drove company trucks there wasn't a thing wrong with the truck and if there was I had it fixed quickly. I don't care if it was a vent that blew the wrong direction because of the plastic inside being broke, I had it fixed. If the ac wasn't blowing as cold as I thought it should, I had it fixed. Being that I live in the wonderful state of Texas this was a must. That AC better work and it better work well.

Also, meg fleets govern their trucks so their drivers are speeding everywhere they go at least not on the highway. Driving your truck fast everywhere wears them out faster.

Anyways done I'll get off my soapbox now. I hope it was at least entertaining lol.

No. Blow by is how much combustion is going past the rings and into the crank case. You can get soot levels with oil analysis, but that only tells like 2% of the story. High soot could be from poor combustion, lots of idle time, etc.

And doing blow by on a Dyno gives you results of what the truck is doing while you're actually pulling a load, in which case you wouldn't be able to measure while going down the road.

    Correct.

You need to look up the service interval for a DD15, but I think it’s in the 50-60k range. Similar to a Paccar MX13 the DD15 has some bypass filtration built in from the factory.

Interesting. Yes, I'll have to look that up or just call the dealership.

Well, I would if I could find a place that has a yard not far from my house, will pay for the majority of the insurance, and get me home almost every night. Unfortunately in the central Texas area, they're hard to find.

I'm open to some ideas on companies and other options that will fit my situation.

Everybody wants me to run but this typically includes staying out a week or 3 at a time which I can't do currently. Sure I could make bags more money staying gone from the house.

I don't know from what I can tell you can get home pretty often running out and coming back so there are several options but again hard to find this kind of setup. Probably will eventually get my own numbers after this accident on my record falls off that is.

I mean to be clear I don't mind going out a couple of nights a week but every night straight for weeks. No. I'm done with that. I value my marriage more than the money I guess.

I’d Change the oil at 20k tops. Fleets with extended oil intervals, changing filters only at certain intervals, doing samples etc. Watching it closely. All about saving a few bucks. I’m guessing the warranty coverage requires the oil samples. Oil samples also let’s Management look at engine trends while sitting at a desk. IMO it’s not worth the hassle for one and only Truck. I won’t argue against oil samples, they can definitely catch a developing trend. But can’t always predict a sudden failure. I think some of the DD15s had a problem with fuel pumps falling apart, putting metal in the oil, plugging pick up tube, something like that anyway. Might be good for something like that, but like you said oil consumption, mpg decreases, and power loss tell the story. Truck runs good, keep oil changed, keep track of mpg, oil pressure and temps. and power. Not real complicated. You’ll get used to every little sound and characteristic of the Truck. Chances are when something’s wrong you’ll know. You already bought the Truck. A Dyno and blow by test is useless now. Why bother? Guaranteed it will eventually wear out and need an overhaul. If it’s running good, leave it alone.

Pay attention to your oil pressure if it starts dropping get oil pickup tube looked at .. they start sucking air sometimes as they age and leads to engine failure . You can spot it if you pay attention it starts slowly most times .if you don’t know when last overhead was run it’s a good idea to run one . Also your mileage is about the time you change rear end and transmission oil if it hasn’t been done yet.

Yeah I've been thinking along the same lines. Keep an eye and ear on things and you'll be able to tell if something is going sounth.

Yes, I've changed the transmission and the rear-end front axle oil. Haven't done the rear one yet. I ended up using almost all of the 2 5 gallon buckets doing the ones I did. I'll have to get another 5-gallon bucket to do the rear one. That oil came out pretty dark but there wasn't that much metal shavings on the magnetes thankfully.
