Have a class b with x p s. Went to dmv to upgrade for an A permit and they said I would have to pay for hazmat and all endorsements over (even though I just got them 2 months ago). Last dmv person said if I wanted to get an A permit I would just have to take the combination vehicle test and pay the permit fee.....today's clerk said I would have to pay application, endorsements, hazmat fees, refingerprint for hazmat, retake hazmat test, and take combination vehicles......FrUStratINg!!!!! I am in MS has anyone ever had this happen?
Was as thinking to save time and money by entering school and already having permit etc.
Anyone been to the Hinds CC/KLLM program in Jackson, MS?
Upgrade from B to A....have to retake and repay????

I am not familiar with your state dmv, but I would think your endorsements once earned are good. I know where I live they stay on your learners for 2 years, but once you put them on your license they stay on, except hazmat which you have to renew every 4 years. I think they consider it a renewal, but I would try to talk to them and see what they can do for you.
Edit: Yes Richter is right http://www.dmv.org/ms-mississippi/renew-cdl.php#Testing-and-EndorsementsMiatiawanna Thanks this. -
Any time u renew ur licence you need to pay all that. upgrading is renewing
Miatiawanna Thanks this. -
Well you don't need the hazmat for your permit, as a permit can't be endorsed with HM. We do upgrades all the time--just take the combination vehicle test and get the permit. Permits do not even need pictures as of 1/14. You need your birth certificate (new requirement), your license showing you have a B cdl and hence have passed air brakes and general knowledge, SS card, valid med card. Also, no back alimony, tax leans, warrants. All States should be the same. Just different levels of stupid bs. Call the state and speak to a person who can cite the actual requirements, and get her/his name, and head on down. The first clerk was right.

I guess I will drive back over there an hour...sit in line a couple of hours... Get A permit... Go to school then get license and retake hazmat and repay for hazmat...wait for background check to come in...drive back over an hour...sit in line again for it to be added....then be all done!!
Maybe one day we will be able to do something with MS cdls locally or online or at least just have a short line to sit in!!!
Thanks for the information!! I appreciate the feedback!! -
Your threat assessment should/is still be valid if you only got it a few months back. I don't think you need to do that over again. I don't think you need to sit for that HM test again either. You wouldn't in this state. You just need one test for the permit, and then the road test(with parts), then you pay for a new license, but just the license, as the endorsement should transfer. Good luck with it all.

Sometimes with the DMV clerks, if you get an answer you don't like, just go to another clerk and you will get an entirely different answer. Just ask until a clerk tells you, you don't have to retake all the tests and hand her/him your license to upgrade.
Miatiawanna and sirstealth Thank this.
