i am about to buy a truck with a cummins isx 455 ST with 1750/1450 smart torque. can i have cummins up the horse power to 525 and torque to 1850/1550?
I was told by a dealer that I could do this but I do not know if it is true. He said that all the ISX engines are the same size block engine. The torque and horsepower are just ratings could be upped by cummins, but the warranty would have to be upped if you increase the power rating. Is this true?
upping horse power and torque. can i do it?

I don't know the isx but the N14 could be turned to 500 by changing setting. to goto 525 you had to change parts. turbo and injectors if I remember right. that last 25hp was expensive
-
Yeah but the 200lb of torque was worth it, in my opinion it was more than 25hp in reality and if you had a 460 it would go to 525hp.
Not sure on isx, but if you can dont mess with the smart torque crap, just set it to a straight 525/1850.Last edited: Jun 29, 2008

I almost bought an early ninties binder cabover that had a 435 N14 originally. when they overhauled it they set it to 500. They guy tld me they said to go to 525 they needed to start throwing parts at it. that is the extent of my knowledge so take it for what it's worth. I never even looked at a cummins before last year

Yeah the 435s could only go to 500 without a turbo and injector change, i ment 460hp but typed 360, sorry.

The answer is yes and no. If it was a major bump the drivetrain might not be spec'd to handle it and the dealer should say no. But unless somebody was really cost concious at the time they had the truck built there shouldn't be a problem going from 1750 to 1850.
Naturally the 600HP/2050ftlb ISX rating is a totally different story.QuietStorm Thanks this. -
It is easy.... You can even do it yourself go to the Cummins website and download Powerspec, it is free. Then buy a cable from Cummins for about 700 bucks and change the parameters from your laptop.

$700 for a cable?! Ouch! It better be easy after that much coin!

Can the 485hp 1850 be bumped up to 2050? Money not an issue what would it take to do it?
