UPS drivers run there arse off specially when new, my buddy got hired on a few months back, on call all the time and usually they have him use every bit of his 14 hrs. sure he gets his 10 off, most times though his drive home and drive back is included in that 10 hrs. some weeks he works days some weeks nights. but he has 20 yrs experience so he is used to the odd hours. Also a lot of them ups drivers go from lumping boxes to driving. heck the guy that trained him had only 1 1/2 yrs exp but had 15 yrs in at ups loading trailers

I thought the new hours of service rules were supposed to prevent drivers from falling asleep?

Look, bottom line is this: FMCSA chooses to ignore data that points to the safest way to do things in favor of creating rules that have the greatest economic impact, all in the name of 'safety'. It is true that power corrupts, and it is my opinion that rules are being made and enforced simply because they 'can be'. Safety and economic impact be xxxxxxx.
Disclaimer: The 'rules' as they are now do not affect my pay or my ability to operate safely.Last edited by a moderator: Jun 28, 2014
