I am brand new to this forum, and I have loved the info I have found so far!
SOOOO
I am currently driving for a privately owned company, and I am their only driver. I drive there about an hour and a half each day. Drive their semi w/ a 53 dry van, sometimes the pup trailer, and their box truck. They do not pay enough, the ones below almost double what I make now.
I have possible job offers for UPS, FedEx, JB Hunt and now TMC.
I have read that TMC is known for sending their recruits home, and I don’t like the idea of being with a trainer for 5 weeks, sleeping in the same truck, for such little pay, but they tell me 55-65k a year for TMC....is this true?
JB Hunt is saying $1200 a week, and that is during training as well, but their trucks are manuals, and I would prefer to drive the autos for constant driving....they start at .52 a mile, and is would be dedicated to Family Dollar.
UPS Freight is offering dry van or flatbed. They said dry van is like 55-62k and flatbed is up to 72k a year....and they have an $8k sign on bonus....
Can I get some input from you all......I would be new to OTR, home on weekends. TMC and JB Hunt will let me take the tractor home.
Thoughts?
UPS, FedEx, JB Hunt or TMC? Help!

I would think UPS. However, I have worked for none of the above.
rabbiporkchop Thanks this. -
I have heard good things about FedEx freight and doing linehaul you typically get more home time. My .02

You post was a bit cryptic. I could not see what your overall experience is in years. I do not know anything about TMC, but if I am reading your post right I don't think UPS or JBH will make you a job offer. Your going to need at least a year OTR experience.

Out of the choices that you mentioned, I would probably recommend FedEx... that's IF it's FedEx Freight and NOT FedEx Ground. Nothing against Ground, but they are contracted whereas Freight you're an actually FedEx employee.
TMC I don't know too much about, so I can't comment on them.
UPS Freight...to me sounds like they're Truckload division. Truckload is Non Union they pretty much do dedicated accounts and they get paid WAAAY less the Union P&D and Linehaul drivers do. Plus, I never heard of UPSF needing $8k sign on bonus to entice drivers to work for them...which also tells me that it's Truckload and desperate for drivers.
And as far as JB Hunt...I heard them Family Dollar store deliveries are back breaking work, not to mention the Manual thing.jfred2, Texas_hwy_287, Dan.S and 1 other person Thank this. -
Thanks for the replies so far. I have offers from them all except FedEx freight. I thought the same thing about the sign on bonus with UPS.
TMC-I am reading about, they and JB Hunt are ready to send me to orientation as well as UPS. -
Have you talked to your boss about a possible raise?

Ups freight its a no brainer

Fed ex drivers drive Fast...no matter conditions.UPS drivers drive safer...from what Ive noticed.JMO though.JB Hunt "runs you into the ground"and on "home time",I dont want the truck in my driveway.UPS would be what Id strive for (out of the choices you said).JMOcoastietruckin' and slim shady Thank this.
