Started an application for UPS delivery driver couple months ago, never finished it. They keep calling/emailing me to see if I'm still interested.

Currently have a home daily job, with no desire to go back sleeping in a truck at this point. Ideally I'd like a job that pays well and doesn't work you 60 hours a week.

    Worth pursuing perhaps?

Totally agree. Seems fast paced and management always sounds toxic. Probably the two biggest turn offs for me.

If you dont want to work 60hrs a wk then dont go to ups. The place treats workers like machines. They try to make up for that with a good top pay rate (I think $42/hr top rate under current contract) and no cost health insurance. Lots of guys wearing knee braces, elbow braces, and wrist braces that drive those delivery trucks throwing packages around all day.

My parents neighbor is a UPS package driver in a small to midsize town. He says he does like 250 stops a day. Idk what time he starts but I’ve seen him taking his lunch break at his house at 6 pm, since he lives on his route. And in August he looks absolutely WHOOPED. In a tin oven driving around, digging packages out of the back and then running them inside. He makes good money but as stated he absolutely earns it. He also said they went thru a training program where they were instructed to make more right turns than left, for safety and fuel savings or something idk. He could’ve just been kidding because also as stated, they have rules upon rules galore.

The training you explained is true. UPS drivers have unlimited rules to follow. The road test is more challenging than the road test for a class A license. From pointing out objects on the road, how to safely get out/in the truck, proper way to put truck into drive mode. The starting pay is good/decent. At my location you start at $21/hour. Free benefits and a pension.

A friend of mine drove package delivery for UPS for about 25 years. Dropped dead of a heart attack at 50 years old. Don't know if there is any correlation. His back and knees were shot before he croaked. Made good money though. Was it worth it? I can't ask him now

Going off the location where I work and see the packages go down our belt to inside the trucks. In my opinion putting your body through all that physical work, i don't think it is. The pay i'm sure is nice. I work in the warehouse. The benefits are top tier amazing. But with all the drivers i've talked to there all said they've had either back, shoulder, knee, wrist or hand surgery. Even a year or two after surgery they said they would get the same brutal pain again. From warehouse like I do, and the package drivers. The job is brutal to you're body, and it can be very stressful. If you work in the warehouse and you're doing fantastic, instead of going easy on you they'll add more trucks to you to load. Sometimes even make you help others load their trucks even when you still have to load yours. Same thing as drivers. If you're doing fantastic, they'll add more stops and heavier bulky packages. Sometimes they'll change you're route with how good you're doing and drive a route that now you're hauling a separate little trailer behind you for even more stops. all in all, I don't think being a delivery driver is worth it. Only good thing is the pay and the benefits.

And yet i see UPS delivery drivers on the phone constantly as they drive around their routes. Who could possibly have that many girlfriend's they need to talk to before they go home to the wife.
