Yeah, I have NO idea how that works out. I don't know if you even get benefits or are allowed to join the union. Around my area, they have no part time, except for dockworkers......which by the way MAY be anouther OPTION as well.

If there's a fulltime dock position open, you might wanna apply for that as well. Dockworkers get paid a dollar less than P&D drivers. They also make just about as much as well. So that way, you MAY be able to move up INHOUSE. It all depends on if part time COMBO drivers get first choice.

I think I read P/T DW/Cdl will work before a dockworker will regardless of seniority but I'm sure this is all a terminal by terminal basis...ups sure is a pain to get info on but the main thing that keeps me from applying is it seems you can go weeks without working or weeks of low loooooow hours! Dunno makes it seem like getting a second job would be a pain!

OK...here's how the dockworker position works, or at least in MY AREA. FULLTIME DOCKWORKERS basically come to work in the afternoon. They wait for the P&D drivers to come back so they can unload the pickups and reload onto nighttime linehau. After around 11am, their really is no dockworkers, and that's where the part timers come into play. COMBO drivers only come in EARLY and work up until 10- 11am, when ALL the P&D drivers leave. And yeah, it APPARENTLY is a hub to hub basis.
