First off I hope anyone who reads this is doing well and starting the new year off on a good note. I recently acquired my hazmat/double&triples and tanker endorsements after pulling skateboards and belly/end dumps for 19 months. I'm a bit low on the usual "experience" requirements for most of the legitimate tanker outfits, but I'm primarily looking to break into fuel hauling or anything of that nature. I'm driven to make this happen and up to this point I have kept my CSA clean as well as my MVR etc.

After putting out a few feelers and applications, I got a hit back from UPT out of Waco, Tx. Before I agree to show up for an interview etc, I always try to do my due diligence in research to have an idea of what I'm getting into. After getting a bit of information from the TM via email regarding typical work schedule, days on vs off etc, I asked about the typical bring home per week before taxes for a "new guy." Needless to say, I was taken back a bit by his response. The figure he gave me was 1300-2000 every 2 weeks. The fact that I could jump through hoops, obtain my endorsements and haul something as dangers as fuel in a tanker, and have the opportunity to bring home 650 bucks a week seems like a waste? I know that my options are limited currently due to not having 24 months of experience on "paper" but I honestly thought even one of the "low" companies in regards to fuel hauling would offer a better salary than that?

Also, to add insult to injury, after reading 60 or 70 reviews from current and former drivers, not one of them was remotely positive regarding their experience at UPT. I figured even if the pay wasn't stellar, it would at least get my foot into the door of this side of the industry. But after reading most of the complaints, a common trend I noticed was poor management across the board, lack of communication, pay, expensive benefits and of course, worn out equipment, which isn't something I'm stoked about as I would prefer not to drive junk that could get my record messed up due to being a rolling target for DOT. I'm not the type that needs to be in a new truck, in fact I prefer older equipment that's in decent shape, but If anyone could offer some insight primarily regarding the Waco,Tx terminal, it would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,
    Dave
