Hi guys,
Just signed up. I'm a new driver. I urgently need to buy a truck GPS before Friday.
I've been to all electronic stores around me. Bestbuy, Costco, thesource, futureshop, etc. And found nothing.
I have a long trip coming up this Friday and I really need one! Anyone that can help. It would be appreciated.
Looking forward to posting more and reading more about my new career here

Do you have a laptop? A net book will do.
If you do, you can be up and running with Microsoft Streets and Trips GPS for approx $100. I think they make a truck version now but now sure. Check the S&T route and modify as required against the Rand McNally Atlas book available at any truck stop.
You will have to figure a way to mount the laptop though...I made a tray out of sheet metal and bolted it to the dash of my T800. Then used mini bungies to fix the net book to the tray. I am also using a chill mat to keep the laptop cool. And some sponge under the laptop to dampen vibration.
I've been running this setup for several years now. S&T version 2007.Last edited: May 7, 2014

Loose your road atlas?
misterG and Tonythetruckerdude Thank this. -
Co Pilot is also a good laptop program. You should find GPS at lots of places now. Truck Stops have them. You can also order them through Amazon and the like.
I recommend the Garmin Dezl 760 LMT. You should also check out the dieselboss.com site. I buy there as much as I can. They support this site so I think loyalty to them is a good thing. -
I do have a laptop but I think that's more complicated way to do this.

I never needed an atlast nightgunner. I've always done routes that I know, but now I'm going on a long trip to routes I've never been to. Thanks!

Don't rely completely on a GPS. Get a good road atlas and utilize it properly. It will be a much more valuable tool.
akfisher, Tonythetruckerdude, Dr_Fandango44 and 1 other person Thank this. -
