I have a friend that lives up there off 129. What are you doing going that way?
Anything in that area you take I-40 around. There are no other quicker way around the Smokies.
From the Chattanooga area you can sneak across 74 to Asheville which isn't bad except for the Ocoee curves.

Before you get to that point, there are signs stating that it is better that trucks avoid that route. It offers a detour of you want it.

After looking at the website if anyone still wants to go on it in a truck they are really a risk taker. The bad thing is if your hanging out in the other lane and a car or motorcycle comes flying into you.

And cops gives tickets if you cross center line. Doesn't matter bike, car, semi they are very strict in there. If you go that way you have balls of steel. Not worth it. It should be banned for cmv

    Dear Lord!!!

That warning sign should read:"ABSOLUTELY NO TRUCKS ALLOWED, TURN AROUND IMMEDIATELY". That's crazy that they would allow trucks down that road.

It sure is a beautiful scenery though, for bikers.

I tell you I'll never go down that road again in a truck. I was lucky to run it without getting stuck.

do you hear what he's saying? Every road in that area, EVERY FREAKING ONE is twisty. Either run across I40 or drop all the way to Georgia down I75 and make your way to interstate 81. There are a couple of 15 mph curves on us74 where a semi needs all the lane. All the locals use the CB and call out the curves so they can avoid meeting another truck head on. That's 15 mph for a car, not a truck. If you don't have a cb, stay on the big road.

The roads through the Smokies are so tight that it makes you wonder how they ever paved them. Must have had a big call for single axle dump trucks when they do their paving. The Dragon would be tight for a bobtail, and because the road is so twisty, your drive axles have a hard time staying planted on the asphalt.

I hear what he is saying. I live here halfway between Knoxville and Chattanooga. His story is I followed the GPS and oh what a ride. :)

I build and race sports cars. I've hit every road through there. Those twisty roads are in eastern Ohio and West Virginia too. Made the mistake and tried to be cheap and avoid the toll roads and ran into some areas that I hope to never see again in a big rig. It's really unnerving to go through neighborhoods where the locals have their eyes spread so far apart that they look like horses. S. C. A. R. Y!
