Everyone should run it once. Make sure your tires are good, your tanks are full, and your truck is in top shape. There's nothing but you and bugs for a good chunk of it

I agree 50 is a very lonely highway. They also call it the sleepy highway, but I found another that will give it a run for the money and that's 96 across Kansas and Colorado.

I ran 50 across Nevada just so I could say I did but I'll never do it again.

Another good one ... picked up in Ft Collins going to Logan UT. 80 to US30 through Kemmerer to UT30 through Garden City, then US89 to Logan.

One of the most scenic drives you can do. And the guy that picked up an hour after me beat by an hour. He went 80 to 84 to 15 through Brigham City to US89 to Logan ... longer than what I did but certainly quicker.

U.S. 50 in Ca. is legal truck route, however, avoid it, because it ascends to 6400' altitude and as you said, you're heavy. The tunnels on the Nv. side of of Lake Tahoe are 13'9" IN THE MIDDLE" so you need to adjust your lane as you enter. Just take I-80....less headaches. Now, if you have boo-coo time to deliver, go ahead. U.S. 50 in Nv. is actually a nice road (2 lane) Nice quiet drive with solitude. I always likes pulling off on a quiet area and sleeping with the windows down and engine off.

I believe Hwy 50 has a 65' length limit somewhere east of Placerville.

Edit- I just glanced at my MCRA and the STAA route does end east of Placerville. That means 65' OA for a tractor/semitrailer.

Nothing to eat along the way and it's really hard on your brakes.
It's definitely nothing to try if someone is in a hurry.

Nothing wrong with it at all. Very little traffic in Nevada. BUT, run interstate whenever possible. The OP needs to look at the most EFFICIENT route.
