oh yes, the joy of rte 6. sharp switchbacks, downgrades, little to no shoulders, really scarey if any guardrails, oh yeah, good times, with a full trailer load of Whirlpool appliances maxed out weight.

I haven't driven a truck over Loveland yet. I do have experience driving over it. I've driven over it in a snow storm. I was impressed with Co.'s coverage. So many snow plows working, it wasn't even funny. They would close here and there for a short time. They were very careful. Easy to see all the tax money spent in Co.
I would rather go over I70 in the middle of a snow storm. Than to drive through Wyo. on the nicest winter day. Wyo. don't plow their roads!
I wouldn't worry one bit about I70 if I were you. Even in the middle of winter. Even with a storm. Co.'s DOT is really really good. They have to be. Tons of money in those ski resorts. -
I'd do it but whoever was paying would have to have deep pockets an long arms.

I haul hazmat and refuse to run that pass in the winter. I went over it once during the winter early in my career and I swore never again.
I don't even really like running 70 when the weather is nice. We haul alot from texas to grand junction and I'll take the long way around from I40 to Moab, it then back. The mountains are beautiful but not when I can see my companies name on my tank, in my mirror.RedRover Thanks this. -
whats a guard rail going to do if you hit it? lol serious question tho.
RedRover Thanks this. -
I actually prefer Loveland over the tunnel for a variety of reasons. One of the main reasons is traffic in the winter, risk of some other idiot killing me etc. If you're on Loveland pass in the winter it is usually pretty much only with experienced drivers who have hazmat endorsements. In the summer that is literally all that's on the pass because it's slower and a bit of a pain in the ###. I prefer it no matter what the weather. All the accidents are on 70 and all the pedestrians are on 70. I'll take the long way around unless I'm carrying a very light trailer. Just don't drive like an idiot.

I hope you realize. They give you extra points for running over pedestrians on the freeway.

Seriously.... Like I said; I haven't driven a tractor trailer yet. I find this thread very interesting. Driver's views.RedRover Thanks this. -
And heights. There is a spot on that pass where you might hang your right hand steer tire over the 4000 foot abyss.RedRover Thanks this.

Same here with a load of spray paint in those little cans you buy at the store. Skiers everywhere and some even passed me on the road.x1Heavy, RedRover and HalpinUout Thank this.

It's for "mental" security versus having nothing... It at least makes your mind "think" your a lot safer.RedRover Thanks this.
