There are most definitely signs and you DO need a permit to haul a 53 footer between Grangeville and Council. Having just the permit isn't enough unless you calculate your offtrack. On the trailers with skirts sometimes having the tandems all the way forward is not enough and you have to suck the fifth wheel ahead too. Just keep in mind that you can have up to 37,500 on the tandems as long as you are not over gross on secondary roads in Idaho. Be sure to set your tandems back to legal weight settings for interstate before getting back on the interstates.;)

There is a sometimes open weigh station about 3-4 miles north of Riggins. This is where you will get popped if you get ####y.

there are a couple of checkpoints along the route. never saw an actual weight station though.

i could be wrong but i'm pretty sure that was the first sign that pertained to the 55. nothing over 48 ft. doubles over 96 ft. the only sign i saw for permits was right before new meadows. pertaining to the 55.
    "obtain interstate permits, libbys electric"

on monday i picked up my load in kamiah and took 95 down to I84

three weeks ago i was in lewiston, first time on the 95. there's a weight station on the idaho state line, right before lewiston and a weight station just outside of lewiston. only scales or signs i seen on that road.

Not sure why this thread was resurrected, but the bottom lines are:

    1. You need a permit.

    2. Yes, they have weigh stations and LEO's to enforce it.

    3. PAY ATTENTION TO THE PERMIT AND ADJUST YOUR TANDEMS TO PERMITTED LENGTH. Read your permit carefully.
