so after talking with the recruiter for about a week, i made the decision to go with US Express. I was trying to make up my mind whether to go company or lease op. the main sticking point i had was the sliding pay scale if i went company. I was scheduled to go to orientation last week, but since i had not made my mind up i called, cancelled and let her know that it would be this week.

so over the weekend i was killing time and i saw this on craigslist:

i was like cool, looks like they are changing or at least offering different pay scales. so I called my recruiter monday morning and asked about this new pay plan. her answer was not what i expected:

"there are a limited number of recruiters that are offering that plan. i would be glad to let you talk with one of them. just keep in mind that since i processed your application, you will not be eligible for the offer."

after i checked myself, i asked are you sure and why? if you had offered me this last week i'd be in orientation already. to which she replied

"well, again, since we already have your information and approved application you would not qualify." then she added," so let's schedule your orientation while i have you on the phone."

i was polite but told her no, and thanked her for her time. here's my question: anybody else see a problem here? i mean, if they are offering 8 grand in sign on (granted over 3 years) seems like they need butts in the seat so why not offer it to me? the only thing i can figure is that she would lose the "commission" to another recruiter if i went in under that plan. so i guess it's better to keep that seat empty for now and for nobody to make the money.

    what ya'll think?

btw, headed to Texas Star Express (Epes) on monday.

From what I gather, they are definitely strapped for drivers. But since that recruiter got you on a hook, then he doesn't want to offer different terms. If you still want to give USX a chance, call them and ask to speak to a hiring/recruiting manager, explain the situation. Don't write them off completely, might just be a lower level recruiter not wanting to lose the fish on a hook, for lack of a better term.

Since you are going with Texas Star Express/Epes, want to wish you luck! Couldn't really gather much about them.

It sounds to me like recruiters there are paid commission.
I would ask to go higher up the food chain.
Ask for the recruiting manager or director.
I would most certainly mention the lack of ethics. And also mention your post here.
They could rectify it, make it right, and afterwards maybe you could follow up on here.
That would go a long way.
Be polite, but matter of fact.
You are the commodity, they need you more than you need them.
If don't get satisfactory results, I'd follow up with talking to, or at least emails to v.p. in charge of recruiting there.
I'm sure somebody on this board can pm you that info.
Get recruiters email address. Usually same format, just change the name to the v.p. or prez.

They were running ads like this all over Craigslist in NE Ohio. So I agree they must be strapped. Of course if you see how dome of them drive you can see why. Good luck with the new gig. You definitely made the right choice not going with USX.

They bombard Salt lake city with ads too. They used to have a big terminal here in 2000. They used to be a great company, not sure what happened. I cant remember the last good thing I have heard

I am a recruiter.... NOT FOR US EX I can tell you this recruiter needed you to fill a quota or commission...... No reason for that behavior. If your qualified for that job then you should be allowed to apply.... I would file a complaint!
