Conway is most definately your best choice to start out as a company driver. I think that many folks that write complaints about their company and then post them here are unable to communicate their problems and issues with their managers. Ya gotta be brave, folks... the squeaky wheel gets the grease, eh? Conways' pay per mile is fair and their health insurance is the best and very inexpensive ($28.00) per week for husband and wife. I have had quite a few issues with my truck being in the shop on average about twice a month (usually 2-3 days at a time) but I was assigned a truck that was team driven before I got it and it was beat to ****! I love my truck though, 13 speed studio sleeper with all the comforts! I will probably cry when she leaves me; great...! another issue to bring up to my therapist...

I spoke to Dana today about coming on board at Conway and she sounded pretty knowledgable but I guess she should right??? Surfer joe, do you have any issues with home time, seems to be the one biggest complaint I have read about on all the threads?? She told me two weeks out and 2 off, is that realistic??
Thanks for any help!! -
Well, today is our last day with Conway. We had to get new tires last week, which we have been waiting for!! I love getting new tires right befre winter, it makes with whole super single and tag axle seem alright once you get some good traction tires! To my complete suprise and disappointment, they have a new tire policy. Apparently they are now using trailer tires on the tag axle of all trucks. What!!?? Well, that doesn't cut it for this girl. I don't care who says that is safe, my gut and common sense say it's not. So, alas...I put in my notice that day. Not to worry though
. We found a job that is great and gets us home a lot, that's something I have been waiting for for a long time. Good luck to everyone, Conway is a good company! It is unfortunate that they have implemented his policy, I will not be surprised if they lose more drivers over it than the money these cheap tires will save...

That's definately NOT safe! This is on super singles too??? Wow!! Surprising for sure...
Conwaygirl, Dana in recruiting told me 2 weeks out, is this not true?? She sounded pretty sure and convincing about it, I don't want to sign on and find out different for sure! I mean a few days is one thing but...
Good luck wherever you are going. Anything you are willing to offer to a prospective Conway driver would be greatly appreciated!! -
You get one day off for every seven that you work. You also have to work seven before you can request time off. So, while you could go out two weeks and then request two days off, they have eight MORE days to get you there. Going home every two weeks would also mean they will spend one of those weeks trying to get you home, so you get less in miles. Do you live in the Midwest? They are looking for MIdwest regional solo drivers! I believe you would then geT home every week, but I'm nt positive. Getting home every two weeks as an OTR driver would be pretty tricky I think, if even possible.SheepDog Thanks this.

Conway girl what are ya doing to me...the wife and I are in St. Louis almost to Joplin for orientation on Monday and you throw this tire comment out there...can you explain a little more about it...not really sure I want to start my new job in an unsafe setting. Any comments on this would help...thanks!
-
Thanks conwaygirl, I understand what your saying, mostly I was hoping for a clarification I guess... we were figuring (hoping) 14-17 then 2 -3 off and so on but if you have to be out to request time then I think I will ask a few more questions of recruiter on Monday!!
Thanks again and good luck in your next endeavor!!!Conwaygirl Thanks this. -
Sorry!! Better to find out now than on Monday I guess. We are in Joplin now, as far as we can see, ours is the only truck here with trailer tires!! I'm guessing this is a brand new policy. So, to explain: Conway told us they are now using tires that are considered trailer tires on the tag axle. They said it doesnt matter because the tag axle is a "dead" axle, meaning it has no power to it. Their thought is that because this axle does not help in pulling you up a hill or mountain, it does not matter how much traction they have. However, the problem is that the tread is completely different, also they start out at 16/32 and the other truck tires start out at 27/32 so the amount of tread is just over half...to me that really changes how the truck will drive in snow slush or rain. We were on a seven mile downgrade the day after we got these tires and it was raining. I was in 8th gear going about 40 mph and when I tried to brake down the truck started squirming around and would not slow down very well. It scared the shibbits out of me! The only thing I can tell you is that I think it will have more of an affect on the stopping power than the pulling, but stopping seems to be the more important one of the two....I would recommend you come to Joplin and ask them about it. Let them tell you why it is just as safe, if not better, then look at the tires and decide for yourself. You may not even get a truck with these kind of tires
. Just don't ever drive in something you don't feel is safe, whether someone else says it is or not. Trust your own intuition, that's what we are doing...

Thanks Conwaygirl...I understand what you are saying and will ask more questions during orientation this week. We are at the Holiday Inn here in Joplin at this moment...Thanks!
