As I mentioned in the other thread about the same topic, this isn`t the 51st state.

I would say there is probably the least of that here in Alberta. We have a very large U.S. ex-pat population due to the oil patch and, of course, a lot of Albertans have worked in the U.S. for the same reason.

I agree with you on Alberta. Even in the fifties Calgary had a large American population and I met many Canadians in Louisiana, Texas, and Oklahoma in the oil industry. But any province that has Gene Kiniski has a native son has to be OK.
I have dual citizenship and am currently collecting Canadian old age pension, Canada pension plan, and American social security. I've lived half my life in each country so I have a different viewpoint than most people.
I watch Corner Gas (shameless plug for the best TV program ever) on WGN out of Chicago.

    JBMChad Thanks this.

    Hay,

The Mexicans are doing it to us. If Canada don't want an American Invasion of Canada they should come out and say so in the news. So far all I've heard, on the news, on this subject, is that the Canandian government is allowing MEXICAN'S to come into Canada and live there and collect benifits. So, Canada here we come. LOL

We don't have our school system set up like that. You have to go to a recognized school then get hired. No trucking company I know of is authorized to train drivers to get their licence. Insurance is the main issue I would think, their are a couple that are affiliated with schools, but that's it.

Some of the better schools are Capilano Driving School, Cameron Driver Education & Mike's Driving School are the 3 most reputable out of Edmonton. Google them for their websites.

Oilfield work requires very specialized tickets & without at least 10 years OTR & bush experience they won't even consider an application.

I travel all across Canada. I have never run into any attitude like that.

They have all been pleasant and extremely friendly. Not like some of the places I have delivered to in the US.

Yes and no. Yes there are specialized tickets required to work in the oil patch (H2S, etc.), but that's it. And depending on the company, most of them have their own in-house training for the tickets.

Many of the major hauling companies will take someone with low, to no, experience on and all (but the smallest) of the oilfield service companies will. With the hauling companies a person might have to ride the right seat for a while, but they'll get their chance. Schlumberger has their own driver-training facility at Crossfield. As a newb I did my driver training with (Dowell) Schlumberger at their Kellyville, OK, facility (~240 acres, mountain roads, mud, skid pad, etc.). The other major players (many of whom I listed in another thread) do similar. No companies do their own driving exams as that is done by third-party companies/contractors (those services are privatized in Alberta).

Don't listen to that bull. I don't know one Canadian that dislikes Americans for being American. There are many Canadians that dislike the American government but that is a different story. I know for a fact that there is a great need for drivers in the Canadian west. Find a company that will hire you and they will take care of most of the immigration stuff for you. You might try calling Challenger motor freight in Vancouver. I know that they have hired a lot of drivers from Europe.
