There are many many Americans that don't like the American government also. I wounder if Canadian's know this?
On the subject of co.'s having a great need for drivers in the Canadian west, I have to ask if there are any co.'s like Schneider that train there drivers and help get them a cdl. As an American citizen, what i'm looking to do is to get into driving, in Canada. I would rather start out with and stay with the same company, in Canada.
If the companies in Canada don't train and a person can't make arrangments with a co. to get training, and then a job, it looks like i'll have to get training here, get a job here. Work for awhile. Then contact a Canadian co. and, if the info here on this thread is correct, then I'll have to go to truck driver training AGAIN to satisfy the Canadian requirement of going to a Canadian truck driving school, and then geting a job with a Canadian company. Wow, that's a mouthful.
Was the comment here on this thread correct when it said that a person must go to a truck driver training in Canada before going to work for a Canadian company.
Thanks

You mention Schneider a lot. They are always looking for drivers in Canada. Maybe you can do something with them to get here eventually.
-
Another thing, You donot have to go to school to get a CDL. You just have to pass the tests they give. One for your air indorsement and a road test for your A class.
-
Wildcat recommended a couple of CDL schools. I called Cameron Driving School and ask a couple of questions about the school and getting work. He said there's plenty of work. He gave me an "onslot" of info. about 'getting this and getting that'. All of which sounded to me like "gobbeled gook" to make it difficult to get a job. Which I basically agree with oddly enough. To bad we didn't do the same here. hahaha
Anyway if there's alot of work and Canada needs workers, then why is it so hard to get into the country to get that work? Canada should be like America and let anyone in shouldn't they?

There are all kinds of trucking companies in the Niagara region of Ontairo. In Niagara falls and St. Catherines you should be able to find something. As for commuting from Buffalo to toronto, Forget it. 90 min you say! Ha maybe in the middle of the night but during the day from Hamilton to Toronto often takes 2 hrs. The greater Toronto area has one of the worst gridlocks on the continent.

NIC trucking in Edmonton does not honor there contracts the HR they have is a nut job who thinks she has a clue i worked for them and had a 2 year contract that was solid but they broke it anyway without cause or reason they treat there people like crap so beware folks NIC or Mcdougal trucking and Loadstar trucking are the same people look out if your thinking of going to them for a job i wouldn't do it and to top it all off i reported this all to the Alberta gov and i guess they don't want to do anything so a 53k contract didn't mean anything
-
if you do go to Alberta to get your class 1 its $150+/-at the border for your work permit $120 for the air brake test $$100+/- for the road test and around $20 for each written test and you best have some big $$$ to live on i would not do it again for anything less than $6000 in my pocket before i go and a signed and verified by a Canadian lawyer ,contract in that contract make sure it has a provision for you to get home if something don't work out
