You are probably going to need a year under your belt first.
Each province has a immigrant nominee program that can get you up there working if your job is on their list.

    Check this site

    http://www.gov.mb.ca/labour/immigrate/pnp/index.html

Take the self assessment test etc.
I'm trying to do the same thing, not in Manitoba, but PEI.
I won't be able to leave here till next year though. So I can't give any first hand advice for you.

    Good luck.

I would also suggest a couple of smaller outfits NEAR Winnipeg, based in Portage la Prairie (where I used to live): Portage Transport, Dallas Transport, Lark Transport, and IN Winnipeg, add Brahma to the list. You could also consider companies with multiple terminals across Canada (including Winnipeg) like Day and Ross, Fastrax, and Trapper. Be aware, some if not all midwest Canadian companies expect BIG miles per week, like 3000+.

Well, I know companies in the Maritimes (New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, PEI and Newfoundland) are CRYING for truckers. My other half got a job with three diff companies no problem without any experience BUT he's 38 years old and has driven a straight truck for five years. Most SAY "must have one year's experience" but it's always worth it to give them a call. If you're a bit older and have a CLEAN, IMMACULATE driving record, they may consider you anyway.

I don't know how it works about the work Visa but I know our company has a few workers here on work Visas from Europe and they all said they had no problem getting the Visas since they could easily find work.

Out west, the "boom" seems to be busting a bit as far as there being "tons" of work out there (that's what I hear, anyway) but in the eastern part of Canada, there's definitely a shortage of drivers.

Most companies insist on 2,500 miles a week.

Good luck and just keep asking questions of the companies, submitting apps and emails and keep on trying. Long as you're super polite and friendly, it should get you somewhere :biggrin_25519:

I'm going to go through the process to do the same thing. I'm going to get a year under my belt in the States first and then see if I can get on in ON.

    Good Luck Philly.

You've never been to Winnipeg in the winter, have you? :biggrin_25523:

Seriously, you've been given good info so far, just follow-up with the companies in question. Yanke even has some info for the immigrant worker program on their website. Although it is specific to drivers from the U.K., you may be able to get some useful information from it, or even apply to them yourself. They do have a terminal in Winnipeg, but their H.O. is in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan ... next province to the left, and about half-way up.

I just spoke with Yanke. They are not currently hiring US citizens, but they are "seriously looking into" changing that policy within the next six months.

i am doing it the opposite way of you phillyflyer---good luck--the companys all mentioned might be the way to go
another way to go would be check with hitech express in brooklyn park min.
they are part of siemens group--so that part sucks cause they are idiots--but they do run from minny to winnipeg everyday--so that might be an option--and they also are on the nominee program--its definately not perfect but it would be a start and a way in possibely
