That's because some idiot has been driving it that probably doesn't even know what a clutch brake is or does.

I'm sure you know the type. They're the ones that grind first gear just trying to get it INTO gear like that's somehow normal.

Lol, I'm not the greatest driver in the world, but I'm a little smarter than that. I didn't even realize it had no brake until I stopped at a red light, it went green as soon as I stopped (I just missed my timing), and even with the pedal pushed into the floor I got nothing but grinding.
Since then, I've learned I can baby into 1st while slowing to avoid that. But, having a bake sure would be nice. Takes the trans 10 or more seconds go slow enough to get into gear when starting off when I'm parked.
It's annoying. Makes me wonder if the last driver reported it, and the Company ignored the work order.
Hell, the shop probably threw it away and said "not my problem"

Good job learning that trick. That's better than some guys I've met.

Being on the outside looking in, I would have to give them the benefit of the doubt in this regard.

But if you're right, then that is truly beneath contempt. It will certainly be their problem when they have to replace the transmission when it could have been avoided.

Rookies get the big full size freight shakers with the automatics in them.
Semi experience drivers (lol, punny) get beat up equipment with issues.
Not sure what a driver with 5 plus years would get.
Flease guys, those poor ######## get Volo or freightliner in their choice of manual or auto. Well, maybe. I've talked with 2 lease guys, both in automatics, and neither knew what his balloon payment was. The first guy asked what a balloon payment was. I kinda felt bad for him.
I've learned a lot reading this site

JMan82, sorry to hear this is happening to you. We live near the Markham terminal so that's who we deal with mostly. The shop their will fix things. It might take some time due to them having to get parts and waiting for us to take our hometime but it gets fixed. Even the smallest most insignificant non-DOT item has been fixed. On my 'Destination Unknown' thread I've talked about it numerous times. US Xpress is a good company but in order to get the most out of it you need to make connections in the corporate side of the company. Know your upper management contacts and most importantly......dedicated accounts is the way to go to make consistent money/miles. :smilebox:

The Markham terminal is just outside of Chicago and the cost of living is higher here so drivers based out of that terminal get a higher breakdown, orientation and I believe layover pay. When our truck broke down last summer, we got paid $100 a day. :walk:

I know it doesn't help you right now but the company tries to have trucks that are 3 years or newer in the fleet. Due to the bad financial situtation the company was in a few years ago they were forced to keep these trucks longer. That's why we have a lot of these trucks from 2010-2013. Their getting rid of them as they get newer trucks. Keep an eye out at your home terminal for a newer Pete that isn't assigned to anyone. Talk to the equipment manager there when one becomes available. :banghead:

A lot of the office people they have are ex-drivers who have no business having the job they do. Most of them don't know how to talk to people. Keep your patience and learn to work around these clowns. :angel12:
