Im in Benicia, CA and once Im loaded I will be heading to Houston, TX. When I came up through Cali I took I-10 to the "bypass" around Los Angeles and north to I-5. Im looking for a way to get around LA when I head back to Houston.

I was thinking of taking I-5 or US99 south and then jumping on CA58 which should turn into I-40? My only issue is to getting back to I-10 without adding tons of miles. It looked like US95 is a pretty straight shot?

Was also thinking about taking I-40 to I-25 in albuquerque and going south to I-10. That would keep me out of Pheonix too, but not sure how many extra miles that would be.

Anyways help me out! Lay that knowledge on me LOL.

I’d go south then hit the 210 to the 10.

If you tke 58 to I-40 and stay on I-40 to Amarillo and then take 287 to Dallas and pickup I-45 to Houston adds about 40 miles to your trip. If you take I-25 down to I-10 you add about 170 miles extra.

58 ends at I-15. So you will have to go north on 15 a few miles to get to 40.

What time and day would you be in LA county? Another option is take CA 138 east (S of Lebec) over to I-15

But if on Saturday or a Sunday afternoon or evening, just run across 210 or check Google traffic first to see if there are any traffic issues to avoid on 10 or 210

But to answer your question. Not really anything wrong wth the 40/95 option, either.

Ok I will look at CA138. My issue was when I was into cali from I-10 and took the 210 to I-5 I wasted soo much drive time stuck in traffic. Not sure what time I will go through there on my way out. But when I was coming in it got congested like 20 miles before even getting to LA. If I can drive through the night I will probably take 210, but I want to have a work around in my back pocket in case traffic is bad again through there.

    I think 138 looks a bit better.

Running 138 is not bad, especially during off peak hours. Palmdale can be slow during it's little rush hours that are short-lived, but I think there may be a way to avoid the main drag during rush hour but you'd have to get some input from the locals on exactly how it goes.

I just run the 40 to Armarillo and then work south into Houston.
