Werner still runs like that. Even though they dont care about maintenance otherwise. Had one unevenly worn steer caught by safety lane once, ended up with 2 brand new steers (still had the stickers when i picked it up) and 8 used drive tires that look to have around 75% tread....no recaps at all, not even on trailers. only recaps we have are if a tire gets changed on the road, and then they get the cheapest POS they can and change it "eventually" to a non recap.
its nice because ive NEVER had a blowout here, and at CRST, i had several in the same time frame bascially.
Usa truck a joke......stayaway

I met drivers at USA that made good money, yet others who was about to lose their rear end back home with the bank. Same thing with all the rest of the Companies. Some do well while others go broke. Example, I was leased on to Great Wide last. I talked to a few others who was making good money, but I almost lost everything, and still may if I can not get rolling soon.
So it not what I say or any other driver on here say about a company but how you deal with different problems that arises. Even with CR England, for some it not a bad deal, but alot it is. -
thanks for telling us about this company. i feel sad

Like Coastie said, my experience with USA was OK (not great, not terrible, but OK). He is right, attitude and how you present yourself is paramount. Just seeing some of the knucklehead drivers in the terminals let you know the administrative types have a tough job also.
Also, like most training companies, your assigned equipment and trips get better the longer that you stay with the company. -
A person with no bills and willing to live OTR will do fine at most outfits.
Someone inexperienced may consider 22cpm a good living if a step up from any previous job ...
Someone with the same company for many years ,may be so entrenched in their comfort zone - that they just can't believe the signs that the company is sinking.
There are no hard and fast rules for choosing the "best" company job - in any field, you just have to research and find what's best for you.telcobilly, coastie and slabrunner Thank this. -
I did pretty good as a rookie at Swift. If I had the preplans I ran hard and on time. Often I sat and the weeks would end in very low checks. Most of my bills are low, just child support, phone, food, ect, so if a driving job can't sustain that, it's really bad.

Stay away from West Memphis, and deal with the guys in the Shop nice and you will not have problems. Most I seen having problems acted like idiots at the Shop desk.
By the way he was out of there in 2 days. They had to send his truck out to the dealer for repairs. Yes I seen a few who ended up being there for a week, but their truck was beaten up junk. Which most of USA Trucks are. -
...im a guy, i didnt know anything about trucks, i went to the SAME CLASS THEY DID, and i learned what i needed to know.
Why on earth do they think all guys know about trucks? I wasnt a truck driver. How did i know? How on earth did i learn how to do a PTI?
I hate people using what they are as an excuse to be stupid, whether they be female or from another race.
Also i can see missing a brake lining crack in a PTI. They are hard to check, I'm not going to crawl around in the snow to check them, and unless you are a mechanic you arent going to see real small ones. A while back I pulled a trailer that had hundreds of broken welds on the frame. 16 hours book-rate of welding. I didnt catch it but i had to get a FHWA inspection on it and it got fixed.
I only check *everything* on my tractor every couple of days. One time i pulled into the safety lane at a terminal, and had literally checked my tread depth 2 days before..got red flagged for having a very horribly unevenly worn steer tire. But it got that way in one or two days! No idea why either. Truck was not aligned and new tires were installed and not damaged yet! I check my tread daily now. I didnt realize one day could make such a difference. The same can happen with brake linings.
Also, I demand to know ONE otr driver who checks their tire pressure and tread depth twice every single day. I've known lots who never even had a tire pressure gauge. My company issues both gauges to every driver. Most OTR drivers dont check ANYTHING, EVER. I see these people hundreds of times a day. I saw one guy yesterday drivign a tractor that had obviously been in a rollover! It looked like they just flipped it back up on the wheels with a wrecker and kept using it! The trailer it was pulling wasnt damaged, but how exactly is that tractor going to pass an inspection? It's going to get pulled into every weigh station with a drivers side scale house.....slabrunner Thanks this.
