Just went through orientation in Van Buren, AR and then bussed over to Indy to get my truck. The people doing orientation (Bill R.) were very cool. We got fed all 3 meals and I stayed at the Travel Lodge. I couldn't believe how many people were in orientation, 70+! They are hiring up for the west coast which is why I was able to get in. A lot of people got bounced out for medical like high blood sugar, blood pressure ect. Word to wise, take care of yourself, it's only going to get harder to get in! 51 people quit last week, that worries me.

I got a nice truck in theory, '09 Prostar, auto trans, APU, 195k miles, but the jerk that abandoned it before I got it, thrashed it! Front bumper is all cracked up, left side fender has a huge crack, dents/scrapes on both sides, bent batwings, 6 of the 8 drive tires are nearly bald. It reeks of cigarettes with butts and ashes everywhere. He was a pig! I walked over to the Autozone and bought some cleaning supplies + Fabreeze, still stinks. I'm going back for some more air fresheners tonight. I told the shop that I wasn't pulling loads until the truck is made right. I took 20+ dig pix and sent them to the fleet services lady. We'll see how it gets handled on Monday. If they don't take care of it, I'm gone. I will be diplomatic and firm, but I'm standing my ground, nobody should have to deal with a truck in this condition.

At least the McDonalds right behind my truck is nice and has free wifi, that's where I'm typing this now.

Wow, good luck. That sounds like a tough situation. Hopefully, you can make it work. I like your attitude.

Thanks slabrunner, It feels like a good co to work for and they really try to put nice trucks under their drivers, but they can't control how well the trucks are cared for. I need this truck to be 100% before I go west, because they have no terminals with repair facilities out there. I'm going to give them a chance to make it right as I only got in the truck Fri afternoon, so they really didn't have time to do anything before the weekend. It looks like I will bobtail to Ohio tomorrow.

In fairness telcobilly, a lot of the Prostars have problems with the paint comming off the bumpers. It looks like it's dark grey injection molded plastic, but it's actually a lighter color, and once it starts peeling, you might as well pull it all off. It's only a lighter shade of grey underneath.

There's a great anti-odor spray I saw it the other day in a Petro,,, I call it the "citrus bomb" but that's not the name of it. I had to detail a car a guy died in (back in my car hauling days) and I thought the only thing that would make that thing habitable was kerosine and a lit match. But the stuff worked really well.

Anyone can think of the name of that stuff hook telcobilly up.

If you have even 1 preventable on your record this can stop from working anywhere. Many carriers will state that incidents/accidents have to be reported to DAC, this is a flat out lie. There is nothing mandating any carrier to report to DAC. Give us a call and let's talk about what happened here. We can help you with looking to have this preventable removed or changed to a non-preventable.

We have heard this same thing from many drivers who were told that information would not be put on their DAC reports. DO NOT take that at face value. The best thing for you to do is pull a copy of your DAC report to make sure your career has not been damaged.

Carriers are the ONLY ones who can report anything to DAC. The carriers pay for a subscription to DAC and many times what they report is negative or inaccurate and it can kill a driver's career.

Thanks for the info on the deodorant stuff. It's not just missing paint on the bumper, it's missing bumper on the bumper! :biggrin_2555:

Look at the thread in this forum entitled "Need advice for tomorrow.." for detailed pix of the truck condition.
