Speaking of amtrak, they really cleaned up there act. I remember as a kid in the late 80's to early 90's it seems like an amtrak train would derail everytime it left a station.

I never rode on one because of the reputation they had back then. But the only derails I hear about these days ar NS or CSX freight trains.

Amtrak can be rather expensive. But some of those views can be breathtaking. I have ridden trains going back to before Amtrak was created and enjoyed it then.

Last summer I had to get to the Ft worth area to pick up a car and my wife wasn't up to driving back herself. So I went on Amtrak from Hope, Ar to Ft Worth. Was around 8 hours vs 4 in the car but it was comfortable and only cost $22. Would have spent a lot more on gas driving the other car round trip to get there.
