I applied to USA Truck for training and received a Pre Hire Letter. I called the recruiter had a training date reserved and did all the paper work. TWO days before leaving for training I called the recruiter to verify all the information was correct and she gives me an official offer of employment. I accept and answer the standard questions (NO felonies, misdermeaners, drugs, dui, dwi, accidents etc.) She asks if I have had any surgery, I tell her 3 years ago I had carpal tunnel surger (NOT job related NOT workers comp) she then tells me I have to provide medical records before I can get a final approval. She says that it is there policy for all recent surgeries. (3 years aint that recent) I ask her if she wants records of my vascectomy -- she says no even though that is more recent. I ask her what records she needs and she says "any". So I fax her a copy of the surgical report from my surgeon.
I wait 4 hours call back, she is gone for the day at 3 pm.
I am a "large" man about 300, which she asked, I read in some posts that USA Truck does not like to hire "fat" people.
So my question, Am I getting the run around? What does a 3 year old surgery that CURED the problem have to do with my employment. Is this a way for them to go back on their offer without saying I am fat?
Also what's up with a recruiter not calling back and leaving for the day at 3 pm.
I have already made plans to be at training on Monday (moved out of my apartment into my sisters house, moved my mail, packed and stored my stuff etc.) and now I wont even know until tomorrow (friday) if I am going, if the recruiter calls or is in the office.
Any advice or suggestions. I am just trying to get started in my new career and already I am feeling left out in the cold.
Ps. If there are any USA truck recruiters on here and would like to offer suggestions or assistance please PM me.

Speak with a different recruiter...they should be able to look up the info that you told the last recruiter, maybe they will be more quick about it.

They are probably wondering how you got carpal tunnel and it was not work related? You do not have to file a workers comp claim to be considered a risk and shown the door.
You can't have been offered employment yet despite what the recruiter told you becuase you need to pass a road test, physical/ drug screen and complete orientation before you are officialy hired which is when they give you your truck assigment.
You might have to be cleared by their safety dept and insurance carrier to hire on with them. So they might not have been able to answer you on friday. The weight thing I don't know anything about, but obesity is a concern since many drivers are disqualified for diabities and high blood presure when they get their physical done.
I would not pack anything or move anything till I picked up my first load for a new carrier. Lots of dreams have been dashed by drivers who jumped the gun on info from a recruiter. Good luck -
yes. next time, forgo the detailed explainations of any surgeries. i had carpal tunnel surgery and there isn't any scarring on either hand. you didn't have to tell them that at all. next job application, "don't tell"....
