I have been driving a long time (10 years +) and I just bought a truck (A Very nice well kept truck). Does anyone work for USA Truck as an owner operator? I am going to orientation Jan 8th and before I drive 2 states away I want to hear some stories on good or bad? I know what my truck has to make per mile, but I want to hear your story. They have a new % package out %68 of line haul which isn't too bad for Power only. USA told me they would reimburse me up to $400 to get there, which isn't too bad. Any ideas on this company as an owner operator would be appreciated! For the record I chose USA Truck cause I am power only. I can't afford the insurance and trailer just yet. Once I get going then maybe look at some logistics.

68% sounds awful actually. Isn't Landstar like 80%? If someone thinks that a trailer is worth 12% of the gross laugh in their face and go buy a trailer IMO.
stwik and nightgunner Thank this. -
Landstar is 80% with your own trailer. Landstar is 65% without a trailer. Done been down that road with landstar. I don't have a trailer

Well where can I find a cheap dry Van? What is cheap to you? Not everybody has 20 grand laying around. I thought about renting a trailer, that might be an option til i can get some solid funds. Any info would be appreciated.

68% of what?
Most USA Trucks I see are hauling big box trailers, which tends to be the 1.00 / mile freight. That means if it is, you would be making 0.68 / mile. Heck, some (although I admit rare) company drivers make that. Either way befior going I'd find out what the average rate is and go from there.TripleSix Thanks this. -
Yea they have 2 different pay scales. Mileage is 1.05 a mile (which is very sad) and percentage is 68% of linehaul. I did ask and they said most loads on the load board average $2 plus fsc per mile and you get 68% of that. Like I said I can't afford a trailer just yet so 68% is better than 65%. I was originally asking if anyone had ever worked for them as an O/O.

Some flatbed company's pay 75% plus a trailer rental fee. Unless your dead set on van freight

Crap, I can set you up at 85% + trailer rent.
Don't get why some people want to race to the bottom all the time...
