Hey, I am wondering if anybody has had fairly recent experiences with Usher Transport at the Chattanooga terminal. I'm looking at making a move and needing a little info. I'm an owner op but I welcome any info from any drivers. Thanks

Is that the same Usher that used to haul beer in kegs on spreadaxle vans years ago in Michigan/Ohio/Indiana/Illinois/Wisconsin ?

I just left their Nashville terminal as a chemical/gas hauler as an owner/operator last week. I have hauled chemicals out of the Chattanooga terminal. I have one friend that still hauls chemicals only from Chattanooga. I'm not sure which product you are looking to haul gas or chemical. Both terminals have been cutting back loads and operations in general. Chemicals are nonexistent in the Nashville market, only gas delivery now, and they are sitting owner operators 2-3 days per week because of lack of business in petroleum delivery. The chemical drivers in Chattanooga, have went from 7 o/o's down to 2 in less than a year because of disappearing work. Those two drivers are only hauling the loads that no one else wants to haul, at this point just to work. They have shut down offices in both Nashville and Chattanooga and are remotely dispatching from when work is available to the drivers in those markets. Usher company drivers are working everyday of course. I can not attest to why they are scaling back. My experience was that the only drivers working constantly were the company drivers and drivers based in Louisville and Atlanta. The owner operators in those markets have newer trucks and seem to be generating a lot more revenue than the ones in outlying markets. The feeling was that O/O's are disposable and as long as the office personnel were being paid, it did not matter if owner operators worked and got paid or not. The last 3 weeks I averaged working three days a week and generating only about $500/day. I am the third driver in the last two months to leave the Nashville terminal. When I leased on 3 years ago, there was plenty of work and we could work 6 days a week if we preferred. Two years ago the Nashville terminal manager changed and so did the general company atmosphere. His attitude was that it was generally okay to turn down loads to the point that we lost many customers to competing companies. My understanding was that the Chattanooga terminal manager had the same philosophy, and has also turned down a tremendous amount of chemical work.
I just signed on with MC Tank in Chattanooga. I don't know if it will be a positive move or not, but so far the atmosphere feels relaxed. I start orientation next week. We will see how it goes. I am looking for somewhere that I can retire. Usher proved not to be that company.
If you want the terminal managers phone number, I can provide the name and number for Chattanooga in a PM. Just let me know. -
