Anytime I am in MT I fill my reefer fuel tank with red diesel fuel. No issues, it is same diesel fuel that contains red dye in it and 50 cents cheaper.
-
No issues at all until you get your tanks checked by the department of revenue then it's a whole lot of trouble.
No problems running it in a reefer unit though. -
Yeah What he said, I was running through the back roads of Colorado had a load that was going from a small joint in Texas to Utah and so I ran the back roads it was fall no issues with weather yet, I top this hill and I see "Traffic Stop Ahead" sign Yep you guessed it C-DOT Or the Feds, Not sure were checking tanks, They asked me for my load info. I gave it to them, they asked if I had ever had a fuel inspection I said no, they pulled the caps on both tanks and sent me on my way! I thought I was running where the outlaws run! I asked if they ever catch anyone out there they said they couldn't answer that, I said well you wouldn't be out here if there wasn't some type of success at it!. Good Luck.

They dip fuel tanks all over Minnesota
-
In 20 years I have seen only 1 fuel check and that was 15 years ago in NJ. Can you get caught? Yes. But adding 50 gal to 300gal tanks would disappear after a couple fill ups.
landstar8891 Thanks this. -
Dont think it saves you that much as they add sales tax on top of the fuel price ...,usually with the discount i get off with efs usually i beat any supposed discount on dyed fuel
-
Sorry shoulda red whole post i,d throw it in the winter prob won,t get caught it think dot boys are more motivated when the weathers clear just stay clear of colorado til tanks clear
-
Just use it a little at a time. Like was said above it will clear out after a while.
I don't know why they do that, it's such a pain to add the red dye when I get diesel for my boat from the truck stop... -
They were checking guys at an elevator I was at when I was on wheat harvest in Oklahoma.
When I was a service manager at a Chev dealer in MN one of my techs was checked on the way to the gas station with a brand new pickup he was prepping.
