x2, No Brainier for sure, with trucks around you can holler on the radio but you can do that with 4 wheelers what other means of communication could a driver use to let everyone know there might be a hazard or emergency?

As far a climbing a hill I like to do and like for other drivers to do it. I've run up on alot of trucks across PA at night who are WAYYYY below the posted and don't have the flashers on. And, a little advanced notice that their running 35 up a hill would of been nice.

Never heard of a ticket for using flashers when driving 35mph or slower. Its just a common sense scenario.

I didn't read all 9 pages but here in Ontario we have signs for us to use them on all major highways at the bottom of most steep hills. They also remind us that slower vehicles to stay to the right

I've always put mine on whenever I'm bout 15-20 km/h under the posted limit

sounds like bull^%## to me!!!! This ain't my first rodeo, are you over 1100 hp. By the way, there is NO 17th direct in a 18 speed trans. If you go by gear , it's just 17th. If your going by shift lever position , it's 8th direct.

I didn't read the last five pages, as it looks like this thread has beaten this topic to death, but a 30+ year seasoned DOT CHP veteran actually advised me that using emergency flashers going up a grade was illegal.

Stupid and counter-intuitive, just like most California laws. Sure, you're likely to get out of a ticket if you fight it, but why get in the situation to begin with? There are only a few grades in California where you'd get far enough under the 55 MPH speed limit to want to use them anyway, and everyone already knows what they are, so why bother?

Every truck driver actually doing the speed limit on most California interstates is a moving hazard in the first place, so why not have them on all the time, using that logic?

I was thinking about the same. Because when you are heavy, even the smallest hill is a drag with a neutered truck.
