I missed that point... I think I conflated HOS and IFTA. Thanks!

Essentially keeping paper just like before, not using that brand, but there seems to be a flaw in the way ECM is read by what we are using. It doesn't start where it left off. Almost always missing some miles on the reported totals.

My drivers still log their mileage by hand and we use try to reconcile with the ELD. Most of the time it's fairly accurate.

KT misses mileage sometimes. Both on daily log as well as ifta summaries. I pay the 360 then download the truck route maps every quarter so I don't have to write down the path I took. I write them down at every state line. I am hoping over time the problem is corrected. It's easy to see if it screwed up. Compare your starting odometer to ending for the quarter vs what KT says you did. Mine has never matched.

When I drove across PA and back 2-3 times a week there is 310.5 miles according to the mile posts. With wore out drives my OD would show 314 ish and when I put new on it would go down to 307 ish faithfully on 11R 24.5's

I hand right OD reading on a tablet. I've been doing it so long I don't know if I could force myself from not reach for it at state lines. LOL

There is no counting of mile markers involved, at least not in my case. I write down the odometer at every stateline. My GPS alerts me when I’m 5 miles from the stateline. I then calculate what the odometer will be. I sometimes tell Siri to set a timer. If I ever do forget, I can run some basic math from my last stop or last stateline odometer. My Omnitracs/Qualcomm device has my odometer for every change of status.

My Omnitracs device does come with mile tracking per state, but I don’t trust it yet. I did a quick comparison once between my miles and Omnitracs, and they were off by a little. I will check again later, but this time more thoroughly to see how accurate it is.

5 miles less here 5 miles more there with ELD onboard. I can't see a good reason to worry about this.

We carry digital dictaphones in our trucks. All you have to do is pick the thing up , press record and speak the odometer reading when you cross state line... Later in the evening when you're stopped doing paperwork , you just write it down, very simple.

We also use GPS to get jurisdiction summaries each quarter. The GPS is usually very close and we pay the higher tax depending on the difference of the two.

I guess you never been audited by IFTA.
I hear they can be anal retentive but I don't know personally.
