Anyone ever used rubber rope when tarping? I thought about using it on the front and rear of a 6 or 8 foot tarped load (not going to use it on sides). The reason I thought about using it was because sometimes on the front and back I have to use 2 bungees to go from one eye/D-ring to another eye/D-ring, when using 2 bungees, where you hook the two hooks together you risk damaging the tarp. Anybody ever used it, is it worth using or a hassle?

I use it all the time for the sides. It makes tarping the sides a lot quicker. and it will keep the tarp just as tight or tighter than bungees.

When I need to use 2 bungies together... I take the "s" hook out of one and hook the 2nd bungies "s" hook through the end.. seems more secure and dont have to worry about it tearing the tarp...

pull it forward a little more. then it won't be so tight.

the flap goes in front. as a cover. so there isn't any wind to really rip the tarps apart. i've never torn out rings in the front.

back and sides are a different story however.

it also depends on the quality of the tarps. heavy heavy duty will hold out. the lightweights. are nice to have light for the weight. . but don't hold for nothing.

if your going to use rope. use fiber, and not rubber. rubber bungees have a tendency to stretch and tear. rope is no different.

I don't like it because I like to keep the tarp inside the rub rail whenever possible. It keeps the wind out better I find. This was very time consuming and hard to do with rubber rope.

I think what you're looking for is a few 31" bungees. They stretch to right about 90", which is plenty for going across the front and back. Rubber rope and shock cord is a lot better suited to the sides of the tarps. [IMG]

I use it for 80% of my tarping and love it.

I use some peices cut about 15-20' long to wrap the tarp back and forth across the top which keeps the balloning to a min.
Also use two long peices to wrap a coil tarp, save on lot of shorter bungies.

When tarping aircraft engines, the customer prefers it because they want no bungee hooks within 6 inches of the freight even over the tarp.
Also I love it because it stretches twice it's lenght where as a regular bungee becomes dangerous doing that.

I thought about using longer bungees in lieu of the rubber rope, just was curious about the rubber rope and if anyone ever used it or not. Normally, all I use is 21" tarp straps but I do have a couple 31" as well as 41" on the truck, but my thought was using it to make a "web" that would hold the tarp very well and not damage the tarp like a tarp strap would. I think the stuff would work great on a the front of a load like the one you have in your picture. I was thinking along the lines of cost also. I can get a box of 50 easch of 31", 41" and some 15" for about $150. I can have 150' of EPDM rope for around $60.
