Mmk, I think I got it all under control now.
Here's how my day went yesterday. I did that little repower thingy which went very smooth and left me with an empty trailer. After that I called my FM asking for the load info to be sent because I had already delivered and hadn't seen anything yet. He told me something was going on with his computer system and he couldn't send any loads across the DT, so he gave me all the info over the phone for my next load which was 56 empty and 726 loaded miles. I got about half way to the shipper and he sent me a message telling my the load was cancelled so I stopped at a nearby Walmart to wait for further instruction.
I was trying to not be too bothersome so I only inquired about the status on getting a new load about every hour for the next 6 hours.
The guy who responded to my last message sent me a message back saying "have new pp, sending now". Well the first message I got was the "load no longer available" one with a load number that had never been offered to me. WTH?
And here's the part where my head explodes. The load info I got next was for the exact same load I was going to get 6+ hours earlier. How? Why?
Anyway, picked it up and finished out the whole 166 miles I was able to squeeze out of my 14 yesterday. Put in 555 today and stopped early to get a shower, a nice dinner and relax. 145 to customer in the morning because I couldn't make it to the next place I knew of to park closer because the route solution is a bunch of 2 lane most of the rest of the way.
Just found out that after my delivery I get to drop my trailer 20 miles away so they can build a "trailer pool" at a shipper and I'll be trailer hunting again tomorrow.
Also, my girlfriend finishes up orientation tomorrow by noon and they still don't know where or when I'm going to be able to get a team truck or meet up with her. Hopefully pretty soon...
Don't get me wrong, I'm still lovin' life and lovin' what I do. I could really use a nice long run of good luck though.
USX drivers...how's your day??

I went ahead and delivered my load early yesterday evening. After that I had 20 min left on my 70. I decided to chance it and head to the nearest Pilot about 15 miles away. Darned if I didn't get the two Pilots mixed up. I really need to write that down. This is the tiny Pilot in Chonnahan. I was thinking the small Pilot was the other one on I80.
So I get here and stop so I can log on duty. I ended up with 20 seconds left on my 70 and no parking spot...LOL. Luckily someone left about an hour later and I grabbed that spot. Whew.
I would have just stayed at the receiver but my next load doesn't pick up until 3pm and I only had 7.5 hrs coming back today. I didn't feel like sitting out there that long. -
Jeremy, soon you will be with your girlfriend and it will be all better...or worse...LOL.
-
Yeah, the "or worse" part is what scares me.
It gets even better, I now have a PP for a load that picks up in the same town that I am dropping my trailer in and no word yet as to where I am supposed to get another one.
Lucky me! -
It has been a day of ups and downs for me. On the way up from Charleston, WV I get a PP for a load going to St. Louis (even closer to home)......BUT.....get to my 1st drop and lock the keys in the truck. Locksmith shows up 2hrs later, I get docked, and unloaded, but I'm out of hours and can't deliver 2nd drop 10 miles away because they close 45 minutes before my break is up. So, FM was going to reschedule drop for tomorrow, but that meant I lost my load for St. Louis.
Then he called me back and says "Take your load to the yard and pick up that load for St. Louis. The yard dog will bring it back up to Chicago in the morning."................So now I finish my break, run 60 miles south, and swap loads and continue on my journey towards home.....YEAH!!!!!!!HD_Renegade Thanks this. -
I wish things would have worked out as easily as I made it sound.....LOL
Went to the yard and the shag driver had never shown up to take an mt to the shipper down the street, so I ended up doing it....waiting several hours for the trailer to chill down to -10. Got out of Manteno, IL by 2330 and headed to St. Louis (actually O'Fallon) and got in at 0515, 30 minutes before my hrs expired and then I couldn't do the 2nd drop. So that load got repowered.
Then, because there was nothing in or around St. Louis headed west to get me home, my dispatcher set me up for the weekend. I went south on 55 almost to Arkansas to repower a load and bring it to Sterling, IL....this evening I'm going west about 100 miles to repower a load going south about 50 miles....then picking up a load at that customer (Tyson) and taking it to Bridgeton, MO (almost where I started out yesterday) for delivery on Monday morning......and then I head for the house, about 300 miles away!!!!! -
I was in Atlanta then had a pickup in Columbus GA that went to La Grange, GA. Had a PP from Duracell there to Cleveland TN. I get to Duracell and of course I was given the wrong PU number. They had 3 preloads just sitting there, all going to the same place. SO I wait an hour for the pickup number. Wrong number again, but at least the right format. A few minutes later another guy sends me the same wrong number I was given to begin with. Why do they do that? If it was right I wouldn't be asking for the right one. Of course that's when I recall that Goofy, my former co-driver, would never look for a PU#. He always tried using the PRO#. Maybe a lot of people do that? Anyway I sent a message to the second guy asking him to please not insult me again.
Meanwhile, the warehouse guy called the head of shipping and they decided to just give me a load, but it was a live load. Ended up with not enough left on my 14 to drive the whopping 4 hours to deliver. I delivered this morning. Duracell had no MT so I just went ahead and BT'd to Tunnel Hill, where I will sit until my class on Monday. That's okay because I can use the 34. I've been running on whatever hours I get back for like a week now.
Beware if you go to Duracell in La Grange. I was told that we never have the correct PU numbers. -
I remember telling dispatch that I needed a number x amounts of digits and starting with this x....got sent the wrong one at least three times with the statement "This is what we have"....CSR finally got it right and I was able to get my load.
Have fun with your class...it's really easy....you watch a bunch of videos and go over things you need to know as a trainer and that's about it. We had an Arnold driver in our class who insisted on talking ALL the time the videos were on. -
Finally got back into a truck! MIL is doing fine. Crisis averted! It only took USX 3 days to figure out where to send me for said truck. Turns out that this one was in Shippensburg, but in their infinte wisdom, they took it to Springfield for me to pick up. HELLO!!!!!?????? I live 11 hrs by bus from Shippensburg and 20 hrs from Springfield! Oh, and Greyhound ripped the crap out of my bag so badly that I had to trash it! All they said was they did not do it. Um, yes you did. I put it on myself in Richmond and it was fine! When it got to Pittsburgh, it was ripped. Really rubbed me the wrong way! And I wasn't shy about letting them know they irritated me!
Anyway, got my stuff in this new truck, went to wallyworld and stocked up on a few things. Getting ready for my partner Monday. Then she calls and says she quit again! UGH! But she has had such a bad time of it - not with the driving part-that I completely understand. This guy she was training with really wanted her to be his GF, so much so he basically kidnapped her and would not let her off his truck! Even called USX and told them how much he loved her! So freaky!!!! So she is done for real this time,no coming back. And I'm left without a partner again. I just wish they would leave me the heck alone and let me run solo. Maybe if I quit and come back? LOL So, sitting like everybody else here in Springfield waiting for a load, which will probably not happen until tomorrow evening. Dang it! Need to make some cash!!!! Hope everyone else is doing well!

Good to see you made it back. I thought we lost ya for good.
It really is amazing hearing some of the stories that go on out here. I'm assuming the trainer guy got fired, but...WOW.
