On the bonus. You need to have your FM put in for it. It took us a couple of weeks to get it. Send a message and also call. The same will be true for beakdown or layover pay, you will need to request it through you fleet manager, it is never paid automatically.
The OnGuard System has some serious issues. Every couple of days it will think there is someone in front of us and slam on the brakes. I am waiting until our next PM to have it looked at.
The message with the route solution is the one you need to follow. It is pretty cryptic. Never trust the truck GPS, not only is it wrong too often, it lags a lot of the time and will be 1/2 to 1 mile behind where you actually are. Addresses in it are often wrong (Lincoln NE terminal for instance, it will send you downtown to the business district, kinda funny really) You NEED to chart your own route using the atlas and the route solution. We also bought the Rand McNally 7" Truck GPS and we freaking love it. I chart the route solution and set up all of our fuel stops and way points before we head out. It has all the truck stops, rest areas, shopping, etc. all programmed in. So nice if you need to find something. -
Thanks Craig. We will contact our FM tomorrow on the bonus. We also got the Rand McNally GPS and love it. I like how it warns you of a weigh station coming up. We have been following the routing on it instead of the companies gps because we noticed in the beginning that theirs was not very accurate. We forgot to "arrive" ourselves at a fuel stop once and it kept trying to get us to turn around for hours! Very irritating! Also has tried to route us different than the route solution says, so we ignore it now and just look at our Rand McNally one.
We are trying to decide what type of fridge to get. My husband likes the fridge from "truckfridge" we saw online, but it is around $500, so I am not excited about that! It is only 1.7 cubic feet, and looking on Home Depot's website it seems theirs are a lot larger, but not really built for bouncing on a truck. When we used to drive team before I got sick and had to come off the truck, we had a Koolatron that we got at a truck stop. It worked great and sometimes we even had frost on our cans, but don't know what we did with it when we stopped driving team. I noticed that you got one at Home Depot and put it on the top bunk. How is that working? Which model did you get? How did you secure it? Does the door stay closed when you go around corners? -
We bought a Magic Chef 4.4 cf single door refer. We wanted the two door fridgedare model but had a tough time finding one. We use a large velcro strap to secure the door.
We have a cargo strap running over the fridge un under the bunk and we hung the microwave under the bunk with the same strap. Work great. I posted pictures somewhere (on here or our blog) -
I am slowly being worked toward Tunnel Hill. Yesterday they empty moved me 450 miles to just south of Atlanta to pick up a load and take it 18 miles back to the rail yard in Atlanta....delivered that this morning then got sent south again to La Grange for a load........nobody but the guard working today, he knew nothing about my load, said come back tomorrow............now dispatch and csr are trying to figure out what to do with me....LOL......load delivers in TN very close to Tunnel Hill.
I will echo what Craig said about the GPS.........NEVER trust it completely.....it not only doesn't follow the route solution, it often makes up its own routes, especially in towns.
This load was a perfect example of why you need to goggle the business......route solution said "I85...take 1st exit to La Grange, past truckstop take 1st left at stoplight, look for company x, go to 1st stoplight, see Duracell, TL"..........there are 2 exits for La Grange, I was coming south, took 1st exit and wandered through town until I saw a sign that said I85 this way....LOL.....GPS says TR on x street (which is what I wanted), but Duracell was past the 2nd stoplight. -
the route solution is the routing you are to use told this by a VP and it is the route you are paid for but always check it because SOMETIMES the route solution is WRONG,
we had one trip from denver to dallas paid using us287 (fedex run we made all the time so i know the milage) but routed over to KC on i70 and down i35, thats an extra 216 miles that we wouldn't have been paid for so always check it and if it's wrong call your fm and if they will not fix it call the supervisor, get it fixed BEFORE you start and make sure you get the new (fixed) routing sent to you.
if nite/weekend tell you to have your day fm fix it CALL THE SUPERVISOR.... it's easier to fix it before you start than after... the reason i say call the supervisor immediately is we had it happen one time and it took 2 weeks to get the exter 530 miles. routed the wrong way from MN to AZ to pick up and the same way back out.... having your own gps is realy handy. ours is on a laptop, "delorme 2010 plus" and "streets and trips"
also if you are not on the route solution and something goes wrong (breakdown/accident) you will be in trouble and fuel CAN'T give you a fuel stop that is not on your route
that is one nice thing about being an o/o now we go the way we want to and fuel ware we want to. my way maybe longer but it's faster and uses less fuel, colton, ca to kc, are way is 75 miles longer, 3 hr's faster, 10-20 gl less fuel. -
this is the one we got from walmart online took two days to get it (fedex) for under $200

our last one lasted 4 years
ps. nothing like sitting in a backup for 3hr's on i10 in texas in aug and having ice cream -
I'm not sure if progress is being made or not......first the pu time gets changed to tomorrow and right after that message was "Load Unavailable".....sent message to dispatch "Confused here....which is it?"
Here's a funny story about following the route solution. I was being good and going where they sent me.....almost out of hours on this back country road and looking for a place to stop....found a Gypsum Plant and parked there....let dispatch know that I would be late because the route solution was taking up too much of my time.....was asked where I was and they would do a repower.....I told him....he couldn't find me....told him to follow the route solution...................the appt time got changed....LOL -
Progress!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Picking up a Quaker Oats load in Atlanta and taking it to Pepsi in Chattanooga -
