I would love to hear some feedback from other USX drivers that drive Freightliners on the new idle reduction software that has been loaded to our Driver Tech. I fully support the new idle policy of no idling between 28 and 70 degrees, but am finding that this software download did not just address this issue. Please USX drivers, give me your feedback on your experience.

No idleing between 28 and 70??? Isn't that a little cold to not have a truck running for heat??? I don't know about that one there....

That bunk heater will drive you OUT in 5 min. It's the heat/humidity that sucks.

Thats a fact. I don't care if it is 70 outside, the inside of a truck gets warm fast! I don't care how many windows you have, parked in a Truckstop between other trucks doesn't allow any kind of circulation. Then you have trucks next to you running engines or APUs, yeah, makes for a great night of sleep. Nothing like driving the next day half asleep.

I've learned from my trainer to try and find hole in the wall truckstops. Many tend to have odd parking arrangements so you have a chance to be misaligned with other trucks. Doesn't happen all the time but more often than at the corporate TSs. We idle this Cascadia all the time and still average 6.3-6.5. I hope the truck I get next week does the same.

I just put a carbon monoxide detector in my truck because I've been waking up really groggy and with a massive headache. It doesn't happen often, but only when parking with a ton of trucks around. Last night it went off. Truck next to me on driver side had a apu with his exhaust pointing right at my truck. I moved up a little bit and it stopped. These apus really need to have that exhaust going up the stacks and not straight to the side. I got to looking at mine and the exhaust on it is setup the same way. No wonder why drivers are waking up more tired now than before. Not sleep apnea, carbon monoxide poisoning is what's doing it...

CO detectors! Yes! They should be standard equipment. I've already bought one for my truck and convinced my trainer to get one. This is serious! I ran too many CO poisonings in the FD and people STILL don't take it serious. If your life is worth at least $40, get a combo smoke/ CO detector NOW!
