I'm thinking about being a USX lease operator. Any suggestions out there?

It's time to upgrade to bigtime... those who know me know I've been with Werner, Crete...

Now to be a lease operator!

I have only been on these boards a short time but can tell you the basic response is don't. Save up, buy a god quality used tractor and lease on with a big O/O only company.

I was a driver trainer with usx for four years. My advise is that the only way that you can make a good living with usx is to go team.

I had a driver from another company pull in my yard. He was complaining about how bad his trip was. Then he told me he pulled a trailer through the Verginia mountains with no trailer brakes. The USX dispatcher told him "the load has to get there if you dont take it you will sit there for next 3 days.

I looked at his brakes almost no brake shoes on all 4 wheels and he was sitting in my yard. Companies like that are not good to deal with.

I don't care who you work for, drivers need to report that stuff! CSA2010 will make the driver and carrier equally responsible. I sure wouldn't want something like that on my record. Would you? That trailer should have been put out of service.
I know some companies, the way it sounds will bully you and if you don't comply, your labled as a bad actor on your DAC and let go. A tough situation for some company drivers.

Thanks for input, guys. Jwp, I'd like to know what your experiences have been, and what your general average has been on your net income. I'm not looking for exact numbers because I don't want to pry, but I'd like to know if it's worth going back to company or not.

    I suppose here's my questions:

    1) Working hard, what is your general REAL net, not what they promise.
    2) What are your average weekly miles?
    3) How are your loads compared to company USX drivers?
    4) Do you sit often waiting for loads?
    5) If you are given faulty equipment as the poster above suggested, how does the company handle it? (That one driver may've just not reported it and told the shop what they wanted to hear)

    Thanks in advance.

    i run about 2600 miles a week,average about $1100 net.
1000 miles is the breakeven.no forced dispatch, but i normally run what comes over,15 miles or 2700 miles,it all evens out.the'll give you routes but you can route yourself, fuel wherever.they have a discount fuel program with pilot and show you the savings per gallon on your statement.you'll figure out the best saving pilots.richmond is a good one to fill up.
    i drive an '09 pete.it is junk.not usx fault.bad manufacturing.
1c a miles covers fuel tax.7c a mile covers maintenance.i've never been in the red on repairs and that's sitting out 4 weeks due to repairs and towing and road side service and still put 2 steers and 4 super singles on.you might have better luck.i'm sticking with it 'till i can buy my own wheels.
i rarely sit.8hrs is about the most.get your hazmat cause fed will require it.
