Only the employer can issue a TDG Card and it's only valid while you work for him, Ask Nate, he's got lots of them.

^ true story. I have a few now too.

Like most job wanted ads they ask for the moon, or just copy/paste a standard ad. Notice they all look the same?

If you have class 1 experience, are motivated and can deal with periodically insane work hours you can make good cash out here, especially compared to the Island.

Just don't expect 40h work weeks. Log books fill up fast out here, a lot of employers quietly expect you to over run your legal hours a peak times.

Now that was funny ........ Sorry Nate ....... But it is what it is !

WHIMIS courses are based on a National Standard, so the card you receive on completion should be good coast to coast to coast until expiry. TDG is generic. All carriers are obligated to give said course IF you will be hauling DG for them. You can take your own TDG course someplace (like if you were a broker) and have the card. DOT doesn't really care where you get your cards, so long as they're current.

That doesn't surprise me .... most carriers simply have a package they present now to new hires during orientation ... they give you everything so they know you'll have it with no excuses

Most vac companies hire people and make them swamp on a truck to learn the ropes and how to run one then they move you up to operating. I am thinking it is a waste of money personally

Exactly, that is what I hoped we would get. I thought TDG was employer specific, but I see it as required on job postings. So what the heck, I did it online tonight.

Actually I got 5 courses done so far this month, and doing my H2s Alive tomorrow. With all of that out of the way, I am going to start sending out resumes. Imagine it will not take long, as already have one offer standing. And waiting to hear back from PB's company.

Just trying to hold off a few more weeks to close a few deals at work and get paid out for work in progress. As well, the wife starts managing her shop in a few weeks, freeing me up to be able to leave for work.

Only real problem is my close friend is back in the hospital again tonight. Been on a downhill slide over the last year and a half fighting lung cancer. Now it seems that although they removed most of one lung and had declared him free and clear, there are indications it may have spread to his brain. 3 times in emerge in 3 weeks, and now they are taking a good look. Sort of scary, we may end up losing him sooner than we thought. I am his executor, so getting time off to deal with the paperwork may be an issue, but what can you do right?

Ah well, who said life was fair.

I think those ads are looking more for familiarity and experience with tdg, as pointed out here the card is carrier specific and cannot be transferred(the carrier has to prove under the CLC II that they trained you).
Whmis is the same issue. If you had an accident and they did not supply the training for your card they have liability under the Canadian labour code.

TDG is company specific, that said, you need a current ticket to give them in trade for a current ticket with the new companies name on it. Make sense?

That must be it Pinner. Well good news is that I have gotten 7 new tickets so far, and doing one more course next week.

Guess I should start looking for a job now, LOL!
