I have seen several trucks with headache racks pulling vans the last couple weeks. My honest opinion, with looking at rates for both, I see no gain at all to own both, even right now flatbed rates are still a little bit better than van rates. The other thing is for most of the year that van will be sitting and its tires dry rotting from not being used, seems like a complete waste of money to me to own both with only one truck.

this winter seemed to stay with ok pay for flats where as the last few years vans in winter where paying close to .50 a mile more. hope this trend sticks next year...I will say you better have some property cause one trailer will be sitting. And most the time it is the van. but once every couple months it pays really well. most money made with a van is were they need you to drop van in a dock come back in a week. yes you lock kingpin, they are not using your van they just need a long time to load, like air plane parts that are getting loaded as they tear the plane down.
    doesnt look as cool though...

I have both and the van sits. I thought about selling it but the prices on used vans are in the gutter so I may as well keep it.

    Seriously?
Penske rents dryvan trailers for $20 a day and $0.03 a mile!
If you are going to use a trailer so rarely, just rent one!

Why not get a flat and when you want a Van put a container on it and run it like a van?
