If this is in the wrong place, let me know and I’ll delete it and repost in the correct thread.
Good friend and I are looking at getting in to Spec Com, High Value, Electronics, etc. I grew up in a HHG family but have been pulling a drop deck for the majority of my driving career (almost 25yo). It’s always been something I’ve been really interested in and would like to get our foot in the door with it. Is it best to start out doing household and move over to Spec Com after a few years or will a larger agent like McCollister’s or Suddath jump you into it out the gate? Our goal would be to pull for someone like TTL, VIP, TTI, etc but know they won’t start us out the gate on it. My friend has a 2000 379 which I know may be an issue for Unigroup. He doesn’t necessarily want to upgrade at the moment but will if he needs to. I’m in a position to be able to buy a newer truck.
Where is the best place to start out here? HHG and move to Spec Com or will someone start us out on it? I’ll mention I know the HHG game pretty well with the labor, shuttles, charges, discounts, etc as I’ve been around van lines all my life.
