I think it's a very good company but unless you actually live some place else don't think they will hire you out of GA.

It's in that neighborhood, yes. It's a pretty reasonable asking on their part, if you want my opinion.

In other news, apparently Tuesday is "tell the trucker how to do his job" day. At my delivery and it's a little joint built mostly for straight trucks and the occasional day cab. Well I pull in and set up mostly for a sight-side into one of the doors on the opposite side of the costumer's straight truck. It can be done, but since the truck is just sitting there, I ask the guy inside if there's any chance it can move. "Guys pull in and out of there all day long with that truck sitting right there!" is his response. I decide not to note that most of those guys are likely 48s with a day cab, if that, and instead say, "Well I can do it as is...but there's no harm in trying to make my life easier, right?"
He shrugs and gives me a sour face.
Back out to the truck, and while I was inside, a guy pulled up and parked in an empty place where my tractor will have to swing through to make the dock. I start the back, hoping that as my trailer and drives get closer this guy, who's sitting in his car watching this process, will catch a hint and just move for 30 seconds. He doesn't.
So I set the brakes and pop out...intending to politely ask the guy to temporarily move...and before I get a word out of my mouth, he out of his car telling me that my best bet is to back in off the street. I ask you to take it on my authority as a professional that this was not my best bet. Rocks, curbs, two lane street, the whole nine. So I looked him in the eye and said, "if you move, I can be done with this in 30 seconds." He makes the biggest pissy face I've seen in weeks and agrees to move. And guess what? I was in the door in 30 seconds, and the douchenozzle got his spot right back.

People sometimes...I think it was the "your best bet" from an obvious sedan seducer that put me over the top.

Ah. I picked up 6 Chain Spiders yesterday in Missoula and I didn't even get to use them! I've been watching NOAA and occasionally calling 511 and it looks like the front coming down from Alaska kinda stalled out last night so I should have smooth sailing over the hill today heading over to Yakima. Not that I really want to find out if they're as awesome sauce as you proclaim but they intrigue me! You should see the contraption I have to hook onto my coveralls so I don't lose the binder wrench in a snow drift. I had a buddy of mine that is a metal fabricator make a new wrench with the same tip size to fit in the binders then the shaft is a little longer but a bigger diameter. Then we used a 36" piece of airline cable with a snap caribener on the other end to hook onto my shoulder strap. Next time I get home I'm also thinking about putting something on it so I can grip it better with my gloves on, maybe a metal paint then some Gator Grip like they use in garage floor sealant would do the trick.

Hope everyone has a safe Thanksgiving, whether on the road or with family. Had my first level one DOT inspection in Merryland last night. Took just over an hour, funny thing is that I was seven miles from receiver with eight minutes to go! Told the deputies that I was out of time, they said don't worry about it, so I didn't, by the time they finished I was just over an hour over on driving time. In short it all went well, passed with flying colors, thank God I had a newer trailer, not an 800 seies.

    Happy Trails

Well, gentlemen, I've been made an offer I can't refuse. It's a long story, but I'm taking a position in the oil fields up in north Dakota. Intensely lucrative, and it sets me up nicely to have most of my schooling paid for in advance when I go to seminary in a couple of years.

The seminary plan has been in place for longer, but the long story part is how I came about this new position.

PM me if you're really interested in specifics. Otherwise, with a sad, fond look over my shoulder, I'm going to load up on black Friday and run for a week, then turn it in and head for a Dec 3rd start date in ND.

Those of you I've met, you rock, those of you I haven't, you rock, too. Now I get to be a lurker like Brian.
