VaWyk?

I haven't worked for them but I had a friend who did. They paid percentage of the load. Starting out I think he made 24 percent of what the load paid Van Wyk. Nice trucks he said. Well of course you can see that when you see them going down the road. But I would have to verify to make sure this is right but he said if you were delayed for any reason on a load... even bad weather the customer would dock Van Wyk for it in the freight rate and in turn your percentage would go down, even though the delay wasn't your fault. He told me on a load of onions out of Yakima to Des Moines, he would have been getting paid .42 cents a mile. Well he got caught in a snowstorm and that delayed the delivery by one day... so when he got his paycheck his rate went down to .27 cents a mile. He demanded to know why so he was told well the customer penalized us so you do too. Needless to say he ended up quitting.

 

looneyTune, i think there is more to that story from your friend, i do drvie for van wyk, and never heard anything like that. im thinking the load didnt pay as much as he was thinking. yes your outbound loads ave around .42 to .51 cpm. but coming back to IA or KS, hopefully it will pay .25 cpm. how long did your friend work here? (for van wyk?)
As for good or bad, all i can say, they will do a lot for the driver to get you home when it is needed, and for your days off, just like ANY company, they will want you to run more. they are very saftey minded, logs must match fuel and toll rec's. i really like working for them and hell we have really nice trucks too....
FYI, we are going to paperles logs within the next couple of mos.
