i recently installed 8 on mylaptop. to which it apparently didn't like too much. i did that at home. so i had internet. left on sunday. but on thursday it was not wanting to show screen. acted up all 5 days.

so on the 21st. which starts my new billing cycle. i did a reinstall of the current 7. and downloaded my apps. all together everything i downloaded totalled 500 megs.

next morning i get a text and email that 90% of my 4 gigs was used. so here i am, OVER my allotment for the next 30 days. i don't watch netflix. and hardly any other vids. in 18 months i've had verizon i;ve never exceeded 2 gigs. half my allowance.

    in one day, i exceeded.

    WTH!!!!

    argue with a dead horse????

i don't plan on keeping V much longer. $50 more per month for capped internet with the biggest junk phone i've ever owned. been the worst 18 months in my life of having a cell phone. i'll go back to sprint where i've never had a junk phone. and the word UNLIMITED means just that.

keep the junk phone for a mobile hotspot for areas sprint doesn't cover.

every 2 years i try a V phone. for 7 days. nothing but junk so i stay with sprint. biggest mistake was actually sticking it out this time.

V wants you to upgrade your amount you use, They pulled the same thing on me once they see you are OK with what you use they will simmer down till the next team of sales folks come out of training then they will mess with you again. Good Luck, Drive Safe.

I wouldn't doubt it. I have an old old neighbor I take to the doctors once a month. She has one of them prepaid Verizon phones. She'll buy a card and have me refill it for her. For example her balance might show $2.30 on the phone. I'll call to enter the number and it will tell me the balance is .52 or such. I'll enter the $15 card and then the balance on the phone will say $15.52 when it should be $17.30.

That happened the last 3 times since I first noticed. They are short changing the phone people so I wouldn't doubt they are pulling that on the internet customers. Short change 10 million customers $2 is $20 million a month. It's not chump change. I'm just waiting to see something big in the news about them.

But if you reinstalled everything it automatically has to update everything. Some of them updates can be rather large.

if you had your laptop recently reloaded with a new O/S, it's entirely possible that Windows is the culprit and not your provider.

If it was constantly trying to pull downloads, it will suck your data plan to heck in a short time. Especially if it's sucking down updates to it.

I know when I am on the road, I have to turn off Windows automatic updates or my data plan is killed in short order for the month.

T-Mobile user here, some pretty killer rates with the new no contract plans, yes I know the coverage may suck some places, BUT usually major roads and towns is fine and they are building out the LTE now which I hear is blazing fast (I only have a 3G device), might be worth a look if you are going to bail on the big V. All that happens at your data limit is you drop to 2G no overage charges.

I use Virgin Mobile prepay. My service costs me $25 a month with 300 talk minutes, unlimited data and text. I'd upgrade to their next plan which gives me 1200 minutes of talk time a month, except my average is only about 100 minutes or so. Virgin Mobile uses the Sprint network and you have to buy your phone up front. But, it's wicked cheap. The Verizon network is probably the best network where I live, but the Sprint network is okay. Unsure how coverage throughout the US is on Sprint or Verizon.
