after eleven years driving dump trucks for a municipality im really thinking about getting my class a and going otr. before starting at the town i worked at a tractor/construction equipment dealer and one of my jobs was loading the trucks for the driver so he could switch and go and i really enjoyed loading equip. and chaining and strapping so im thinking about flatbeds. two questions is flatbed good for a newbie and are there any companies hiring new drivers out of vermont. im single with no attachments except my dog and a yearning to see the country so trucking is kinda calling to me

Try Bellavance out of Barrie.

I always wanted to winter in the basin, and ski every day! I love it there. Good luck with your search.

Yes, Bellavance is the outfit you'll want to try and get on with. They do hire new drivers at certain times of the year. Flatbed has been slow, so they might be done training until spring. When you get enough posts give me a PM.

Talked to a bellavance driver awhile back and after the discussion I would not go work for them. Low pay and low miles for experienced guys. Not sure how they are for new drivers but I will also say I see their equipment quite a bit while running the NE and it leaves alot to be desired. That said I'm sure they pay even or a little better than TMC.
Also what town gig are you leaving maybe ill get an application in before you leave it so I can come off the road. Near St. J area by chance?snowman01 Thanks this. -
I don't work for these guys. But am around Barre, their yard and drivers almost daily. I know drivers who complain about the pay and miles and I know others who are happy and consider themselves well-paid. I know some who are very well paid. Most are home several nights during the week. They also have been occasionally hiring new drivers. There are an awful lot of new trucks in their fleet. They were getting new PROSTARS but have just switched to Freightliners because of all the Navistar problems. The flats are all alum. and the vans and reefer vans are all very recent. I think they kept some of the Eagles around for the flats because the maxforce 13 in the new tractors couldn't pull the granite. The complaint I've heard recently is that they are running the drivers hard and pushing the limits on legal. Anyways, there are very few jobs in this area, and these guys are by far the largest carrier. I wouldn't call them a bottom feeder or a bad company at all. If you go through with getting your CDL, you should check them out because they are not going to treat you like so many starter companies that you read about here.

I see Bellavance trucks down here once in a while so they do get south but its not often I see them. Probably could get you south if you wanted or asked for it.
