I'm looking for information on the benefits of being a veteran-owned trucking company or a service-disabled veteran owned trucking company.
-Does it mean anything or help you at all?
-Are DoD flatbed loads more lucrative than non DoD flatbed loads?
I don't even know what questions to ask, so I hope someone can steer me in the right direction.
Thanks.

You will need a B&D number in addition to your other information (Conway Arkansas is the main Issuer of B&D) that ties into your ability to do any business with Government.
You can probably bill Dear Uncle Sam 5.00 a mile on DOD loads and get away with it. I don't know.
I have hauled quite a few of them in about the mid 90's one summer on the run up to a potential Korean War with war material going to the ports. Dear Leader had a heart attack and that's the end of it for me. I think my company averaged 2.50 a mile and higher on those. (I eyeballed the rate information in a secure printer room that I got thrown out of one night. No one tells drivers anything about that sort of stuff... and here we are at .30 a mile...) -
What is a b & d number?

Get online with FedBizOpps | FLETC. Set up an account and see what ya can find.
Alot of contracts are "lowest bidder". So give it a shot and see what else you can get into. The government has lots to.move.
Get alot of coffee with a computer, printer and scanner. You will be filling out paperwork for days. But once your set up. You can play with the big boys.fargonaz Thanks this. -
