This Is The Difference Between Whiskey, Scotch, And Bourbon
Have you ever wondered about what actually differentiates whiskey, scotch, and bourbon? While all three share some similarities, each has unique qualities and a different manufacturing process. Whiskey is a distilled spirit made from malted barley or other grains that is distilled and aged in wooden barrels. In the United States and Ireland, the spirit is referred to as whiskey, while in Canada and Scotland, it's called whisky. It is important to remember that all bourbons and scotches are whiskey, but not all whiskey is bourbon or scotch. U.S laws regulate what can be labeled as bourbon. The spirit must be made in the U.S and be aged for at least two years. The mash used to make bourbon must contain at least 51% corn, and aging has to take place in charred white oak barrels. Scotch whisky is produced in Scotland using malted barley or other cereal grains and must be fermented using only yeast. All of these spirits have different variations in taste and smoothness, so experiment to find which you like the best. The spirit is popular all over the world with World Whiskey Day being celebrated on the third Saturday of May each year
