Hey guys! I am new to this site, and I am also a new CDL driver. I have had my Class A CDL for about 5 months now. My question is, Do I need to tell my employer that I got a no seatbelt ticket in my own car? Will it affect my CDL in any way? Thanks for your advice.

You should. He will find out anyway when he checks your MVR. It won't disqualify you from employment.

You don't need to tell your employer now, just until they ask for a declaration from you of prior violations in the prior year. It will not "affect" your CDL but it is an infraction that will show up on future DMV reports, just the same.

once a year you have to fill out a form from your employer verifying any violations you may have had, or the lack thereof. So, even if you don't tell them now, you will when the do the yearly thing.

Also, if you plan on fighting it, you should wait until it's dismissed or plea to a lesser charge. This is assuming that company policy doesn't require you to mention it in X number of days.

It all depends if the state determines that the charge is a moving violation or not. If it is classed as a moving violation and you are convicted or pay the ticket, then you have to notify the employer within 30 days. There is no difference anymore whether this happens in a car, pickup or motorcycle as to the truck.

As others have stated it also has to be declared each year.

However, if your state decides that this is a moving violation... it's best two own up to it with your company ASAP.

Thanks to all who responded. I am planning on telling my employer on Monday just so I can cover my behind. It's the first violation I have got in 10 years, so I am a little pee'd off about it.

a violation is a violation.. there is no separation and hiding a ticket is just a dumb move.

Were you wearing a seat belt?

If not, then what are you upset about? That you got caught?
