The Washington Examiner newspaper, today, February 18, 2010, said:
Virginia is spending three million dollars to open rest stops that had been closed on I 81 and I 66. Last year, Gov. Kaine, in a budget crunch shut down 19 of 42 highway rest stop facilities in Virginia. The new Gov. McDonnell has gotten VDOT to open four rest stops on I 81. The rest will re open by April 15, 2010. The money comes from VDOT's emergency maintenance fund and will keep the facilites open until June 30, 2010 which is the end of the current fiscal year. Longer term funding will be decided upon later this spring.
